Technically, it isn't the one sold in India, because the one in India has only 2 airbags, while the one sold abroad has many more (I think 6), along with other safety features that aren't in the India model, like traction control, etc.

Also, I'm not sure that the Indian i20 has been crash tested, so that may be another reason why India hasn't got a 5 star rated car yet.

Happy that my reasons for buying the Etios Sedan have been validated. Even the Honda city doesn't have force limiters and pre-tensioners. Sheet metal doesn't have too much of a role to play in safety, the body frame matters more there.

It comes as no surprise, Toyota is know to make designs which are durable though people might get confused with the low kerb weight and low thickness of sheet metals.

Feels happy for my decision to buy an Etios.

Great to see Toyota make safe vehicles for india. Even the etios cabs have airbags. Shame on players like renault that have a 200 kg lighter kwid and size compromised airbags on the duster in India

The latest crash test ( November 2017 ) of the Etios with isofix mounts and Toyota recommended child seats upped its child protection rating to 3 stars.
Adult protection continues to remain 4 stars. More details here

to Toyota for continually upping the bar on safety on all their vehicles.
