Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

The Renault Kwid was one of the cars crash tested by Global NCAP earlier this week. The car fared poorly and scored zero stars. While one of the three variants of the car that was tested had a driver airbag, other variants did not have it. Further, all cars lacked ABS, seatbelts with pretensioners, seatbelt reminders and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The car's structure was also deemed to be unstable.

Renault will sell the Kwid in Brazil as well. However, the car will be built in Brazil itself and is likely to be safer than the Indian version. Renault Brazil has assured a prospective customer that it will equip the Kwid with four airbags and ABS. It will meet safety standards set by the Brazilian authorities.

Latin NCAP is expected to conduct crash tests of the Brazil-spec Kwid. The results will reveal how much safer the car is than the Indian version.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

Good move by Renault, good for Brazilian customers.
*Hope the 1000cc variant is launched soon.

If it does indeed score better in the Latin NCAP tests, it should at least act as an eye opener for our authorities to update our archaic Indian Regulations. At least then the manufacturers cannot hide behind the "conformance" to indian regulations as their standard defense when their cars fare poorly in crash tests.

It will score better. And it won't be 660 kgs for sure.

The Indian government is working actively and should implement BNVSAP quickly, let's hope it's a concrete plan towards implementing basic safety norms in cars.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

4 Airbags are surely welcome here in India, but I highly doubt Renault will add 4 of them in the Indian spec Kwid.

Will bring up the costs for sure & it may loose out in the highly price sensitive Indian market, also Maruti has pitched it up with the face lifted Alto 800.

Atleast an option for the passenger Airbag & ABS should be given. But again, customers in this segment may just stick to the "kitna deti hai".

Finally, the govt should implement these basic safety features & make them mandatory. Probably give tax benefit for cars with ABS & airbags, sounds better than the tax benefit for <4m cars.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

Renault releases a teaser to its upcoming launch of KWID, though launch could be in November only.

The new Kwid will be produced at Renault's plant in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, and will rival Fiat Mobi and Volkswagen up!.

The article shows the KWID will be different from the Indian one in many ways mainly in new aesthetic details, new internal finishing and safety improvements.
Quote:
Renault's KWID will receive national structural reinforcements Kwid, with monoblock designed especially for the needs of our market and high-strength steel plates, which will yield an increase in weight of about 20%, to approximately 800 pounds. In addition, all versions of the vehicle will leave the factory with front and side airbags, ABS brakes with EBD and Isofix.
Quote:
the model will offer the three-cylinder 1.0 liter flex of the Nissan March, delivering up to 77 HP and 10 kgfm, beyond the Indian, 0.8 litre three-cylinder also, but with changes to adapt to ethanol (outside this block yields 54 BHP and 7.3 kgfm).

Despite the low cost aspect, the Renault Kwid will be sold with four airbags, according to the automaker itself, in addition to offering additional reinforcements in the structure in relation to the Indian. Antilock brakes are also offered, as are required in Brazil. Air conditioning, power locks, Windows and power steering and audio or multimedia system will be part of the package.

The mechanics should be focused initially on a three-cylinder 1.0 engine. Stepway versions and/or GT Line can be offered later. Expect a price at the same level of Clio, now part of R$ 33,330.

Better safety, rear wash wipe. Wow! It looks good.

They should have sold this spec over here. I am sure there will be takers even if the landing cost is 5 lakh or thereabouts. The superb design of the Kwid is worthy of a good build.

Sadly, Renault will not bother till the government steps in. Not singling out Renault, but its high time GOI steps in considering the amount of tax that is collected on a car made and sold here.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

Quote:
Basically, what changes in relation to the Indian model are the plastics of the finishes that will be replaced by better quality materials. Another change from the Indian national model is not getting the digital instruments and framework will be equipped with analogue and digital instruments
In addition to the three-cylinder 1.0 that will arrive at launch, the national Kwid will be equipped with three-cylinder 0.8 anticipated back in September 2015.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

KWID in Brazil will be marketed as a "SUV".
Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags-flagranovorenaultkwid2774x532.jpg

Will alter the structure of the car when compared to the Indian version.

Quote:
To get an idea, the Brazilian model will increase 20% around in total weight, in comparison with the Indian (pass of about 650 kg to just under 800 kg) – mainly due to reinforcements in the monoblock and use of higher strength steels.
Will get side air bags and ABS in addition to its structural changes- the Goal is to get acceptable safety ratings in the Latin NCAP test.

Quote:
The goal of the brand is do well in crash tests of the Latin NCAP, considering that the Indian model had poor showing Overall NCAP's – zero star

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

Renault's KWID will launch in Brazil - March 2017.

Quote:
The Kwid will be the first single to come standard with side airbags as anticipated in May.
Externally, the Kwid practically will be equal to the Indian. What change are the mirrors that are the same as those of the brothers Logan and Sandero. Inside the Kwid manufactured Parana will have new Panel. Basically, what changes in relation to the Indian model are the plastics of the finishes that will be replaced by better quality materials. Another change from the Indian national model is not getting the digital instruments and framework will be equipped with analogue and digital instruments.

the Brazilian version of Kwid will have a new series of security improvements in relation to the Indian model, which has disappointed us tests conducted by the Global zero-star NCAP without airbag and a star in the model with front airbags. Among the changes, there will be structural reinforcements.
Quote:
The new Renault Kwid for the Brazilian market will feature high-strength steel, causing the national model is up to 140 pounds heavier than the Indian, which has 700 to weight 840 kg. To give an idea, only the driver's seat will be nine pounds heavier than the Indian Kwid.

the car will be equipped in all versions with two front airbags and two side, something unheard of in the segment, and also for fixing Isofix child car seats in the back seat. Other items, such as electronic stability control, however,to be offered only when it becomes mandatory

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

Renault launches KWID in Brazil. For a competitive cost 40% of the parts are imported from India.
Staring at a price of R$ 29.990 ( ~ INR 5.9 lakhs ) and to be at R$ 4000 cheaper than Fiat Mobi is the basis for imports from India.

Keeps the Brazilian KWID structurally stiffer than the Indian counterpart. 80% of the KWID is different with higher strength steels, backup, new equipment and sound insulation reinforced, the weight will increase by 160 kg, the 680 kg Indian car to 840 kg in the car for Brazil.

Re: Brazil-spec Renault Kwid to get ABS, 4 airbags

And it will also have electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors and an electric boot release.
Also the "naked" metal bits in the luggage bay has been covered up including a tailgate inner trim.

Renault is missing a point. If they added these improvements and sell it here, in Bharat, the KWID will still sell. In fact, Renault's brand perception will increase in the eyes of the consumer. Guess that's wishful thinking !
