@amalji any idea if etios air bags have the infamous takata air bags. I mailed Toyota customer service but got no answer.
I am a bit worried.

Even Etios does seem to be affected.

The recall extends to Central and South America, Africa, the Near and Middle East and Singapore, and also includes the Hilux pick-up truck and the Etios line of sedans and hatchbacks.

Thanks for sharing, Amalji. Moving your post out into a new thread. If the Indian Etios & Liva are affected, Toyota had better issue a recall ASAP.

Is the tag on the front seat belts visible in the case of Toyota cars? That should clearly mention which company manufactures the airbags for each car.

Are the Indian Toyota Etios and Liva affected? Is there a VIN check that we can do on an official recall website?

Is the seatbelt manufacturer and airbag manufacturer always the same ?
Anyway, this is what my seatbelt tag shows.

And Tokia rika doesn't seem to be involved in the manufacturing of airbags

They have a global recall link - http://www.toyota.com/recall
I checked my VIN there and it doesn't show any info for recall. We'll have to wait and watch here. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It's manufactured by Tokiarika Minda India Private Ltd (as seen in tag), a joint venture of the Japanese Tokiarika you mentioned above with NK Minda group. And they do manufacture airbags.

And yes, AFAIK seat belts are manufactured as a package by the same company in the case of airbag equipped cars.

The seatbelt tag in Etios says Tokai Rika Minda India pvt ltd.Toyota internationally recalls the Etios for faulty airbags (Takata). India next?-etios-airbag.jpg

It's a part of the Toyota Group and is one of the subsidiary companies of Toyota.

AFAIK, only in case where the vehicle is equipped with Airbags and Pre-tensioners for seatbelts, it makes sense to have same supplier. The airbag controller fires Pre-tensioners few milli-seconds prior to the airbags. So, from design and calibration perspective it is preferred to have same supplier, but it's not a rule.

In case of no Pre-tensioners, seatbelts have no technical relationship with the airbags, so are usually sourced separately (read : cheapest source).

So, please check if your vehicle has seatbelt Pre-tensioners.

Mine is a December 2015 model and it has pre-tensioners.
