Police in southern China are punishing drivers who dazzle other road users with full-beam headlights by making them stare into the lights for a minute, it's reported.

It can happen only in China!! Not sure how effective the punishment is, but this is one thing we badly need to implement in our country!!!

Wow! May or may not work with the thick skinned kind, but will definitely give them quite a dazzle and at least something to think about.

Ever tried staring into a XM-L2 LED torch. I would advise against it. :D

Seems rather harsh. But is this crackdown for OEM highbeam usage or for the usage of aftermarket extra-bright HID/LED units? From the link it seems like this crackdown is for failing to use your dipper switch even for OEM lights.

While driving with high beams on, when you have oncoming traffic, could be potentially fatal on some roads, there must be another way of controlling this.

The Punishment is indeed going to be effective but in our country crackdown is a low key affair, these days mainly to satisfy the crowd on social media!

I am yet to come across regular & consistent vigilance for driving on High beams than anything else. Like we have cops cracking down on Drunk Drivers/Riders on Weekends only (mostly) or buses without the mandatory emergency exit when one of the buses caught fire and absence of this door resulted in more casualties!

Our roads are the best example of lawlessness - Everything is taken for granted and so are these high beams.

Latest gadgetry is LED clusters as auxiliary lights in the front.

I just love such kind of activities. This is exactly what can be termed as "giving them taste of their own medicine". Only then they'll realise the harm they are doing to others.

I really hope such things come to India as well, the petty fines hardly do anything good to change bad habits. If it's ever to come, I hope punishing the "honkers" will be the first so they stop meaningless honking.

Make them stand in front of their own vehicle with their ear near the horn (with all obstacles removed) and honk for a full 1 minute; am sure any dumb will understand how harsh is it for others when he honks.

And meanwhile Chinese cabbies have their own creative ways of scaring people that use high beam - ghostly looking reflecting decals that glow when a high beam is turned on them.

Though it just might cause some guy to die of fright or something ..

Lovely!! I wish they do something like this for honkers too. Like, impose a rule that every car must be fitted with another horn in the interior, close to the driver's ears, of double the exterior horn's decibel level, and should be wired to go together.
