Just came back home after a tour to Uttarakhand. While the spped limit on the WPE is 120kmph, i was under the mistaken belief that 4 lane national highways which have a divider, also have a 120kmph limit. Got caught twice on the Jaipur-Abu road stretch, on NH 48 & 58. The cops insisted that Rajasthan govt has mandated a 80kmph limit, regardless of the recommendation from the center.

Re: Speed limits to be increased - Up to 70 km/hr in cities & 120 km/hr on highways

Coming next week: New speed limits on city roads, highways.

Mumbai traffic police have revised the speed limits on 11 major roads and bridges across the city. Some of these roads include Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Marine Drive, Western and Eastern Express Highway (WEH and EEH), JJ Flyover, Eastern Freeway and the Lalbaug Flyover. While the speed limit on Marine Drive has been increased from 60 kmph to 65 kmph, it has been reduced to 70 kmph from 80 kmph for both WEH and EEH. Motorists cannot exceed 35-45 kmph on the bends and curves of Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Eastern Freeway. Earlier, the speed limit for these bends was the same as the
rest of the road.

According to traffic police officials, the limit of 80 kmph has been retained for both the Eastern Freeway and Bandra-Worli Sea Link as there is no pedestrian movement here. However, new speed limits of 35-45 kmph have been introduced for bends and curves.

On JJ Flyover, the limit continues to be 60 kmph but has been increased from 30 to 35 kmph at the Post Office curve. He said the police will also launch campaigns to appeal to motorists to observe the speed limits from next week.

How would one come to know what is the speed limit on the road S/he is driving/riding, be it city or highway?

I am unable to see Show Speed Limit Option in Google Map App.

Re: Speed limits to be increased - Up to 70 km/hr in cities & 120 km/hr on highways

Just get amazed at the stupidity with which speed limits are set in India.

The half full end of the glass is that the speed limit on the JJ flyover has been raised from 30 kph to 35 kph at curves and 60 kph elsewhere. But that is accompanied by a reduction in speed limits from 80 kph (which was already too low) to 70 kph on the EEH and WEH (which are certainly wide enough to allow travel at 100 or 120 kph in the early morning hours - at other times, they are too clogged for this to matter).

The fact is that unrealistic speed limits just brew a lack of respect for the law. Wonder when our cops will realise that.

Bump!
What is the new speed limit for national highways with no access control. For example NH 48 as I still face a problem on jaipur ajmer highway where they say speed limit of 80km per hour against 100km as per central govt notification.
