I noticed this event unfolding near the school where my son was doing his soccer practice. I saw the emergency crew administer CPR on the kid and finally seal off the area and the roads. There is a detail animation of how the kid was pinned under a seat and asphyxiated. He made 911 calls but the cops could not locate him. There are enquiries going on about why they could not locate and save him.

But it's scary how a simple mechanism can turn deadly. This was a 16 year old kid, not a child. I have done such maneuvers myself trying to retrieve luggage from the cars.

Unfortunate incident, but its freak accident and that too may be first of its kind. It scary to think that a simple thing can turn into a death trap. Its also being reported in local news papers here - https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/teen...ome-topstories

Hope the family finds the strength to cope up.

Regards

Strictly my speculation is he may have unlatched the seat himself to reach further down. I can imagine myself doing that.

What a terribly freak accident. All of us, daily, do maneuvers such as these that can put us in a tricky spot, because they are seemingly harmless.

Although it was the third row in this case, here's something from the article in the above post:

Quote:

In November, second-row seats in certain Honda Odyssey minivans were recalled because they were not locking in place, though it is unclear what exactly happened regarding Kyle's fatal injury.
Quote:

Honda is recalling about 900,000 of its Odyssey minivans because the second-row seats may tip forward if not properly latched.

The recall announced Saturday covers vehicles from the 2011-2017 model years. About 800,000 of the affected minivans were sold in the United States.

Honda says it has received 46 reports of minor injuries related to the issue.

Gosh, my heart goes out to him & his family. What a young life lost, rest in peace. Just shows we can never be too careful in life. No shortcuts - a better thing to do would be to access the luggage from the tailgate.
