Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated the 29th Road Safety Week at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Besides administering Road Safety oath, Gadkari also released a book named "Have a Safe Journey" and also awarded school students.

Nitin Gadkari said it is government's priority to ensure the safety of people on road and common men cooperate is imperative.

The Road and Highways minister also said that the central government has increased the number of National Highways keeping in mind the traffic density and various other factors.

As a part of National Road Safety Week , the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to hold various road safety activities across the country. These include free eye check-up camps at 16 toll plazas, health check-up camps at 15 locations and other road safety awareness programs for commercial drivers at various locations across India. Most of the commercial truck drivers in the country are overworked due to long hours and are not at their best when it comes to fitness. These exercises should help them understand that paying attention to their health is crucial to the safety of other road users.
