Wanted to dress up as the grim reaper in college as part of "Change management" and make fellow students wear helmets...Professori was most enthused and needless to say the Reverend director threw us both out of his office! :D
Personally I would favour stricter punishments for those who violate the rules. It's not as if the people who've got their licenses don't know one shouldn't cross 80kmph or wear a helmet when on a two-wheeler.
Apparently, the government is already mulling an amendment to the current motor vehicles act.

I sincerely hope it passes. Also when I received my license I noticed nobody really bothered about the written test before obtaining a LLR. This needs to change, and the driving test undertaken by the RTO inspector needs to become more challenging rather than simply reversing up a slope.

Yes, I really wonder about the effectiveness of such 'soft' campaigns. Give the traffic cops more powers, let them seize vehicles, perhaps even enforce some overnight jail time for serious traffic offenses like riding on the wrong side of the road and drunk driving. The traffic situation in Bangalore is already out of control and it's mostly due to wilful rule breaking, not ignorance. It needs stricter laws and enforcement to bring some order here. Helmets, I personally think there need not be a rule about wearing one. Let the people who want to ride lidless do so, let them donate organs.
I pity and even curse these Bangalore traffic policemen. They are toothless and even clueless.
- There are fewer than 12 policemen every 1 lakh citizens
- They have no cameras, no chase vehicles, armed with some basic white Hat which they cannot use as weapons, and a stick to chase away dogs
- You cannot reason their sense or science behind implementing rules
- They have to feed a mafia of tow truck/ vehicle lift personnel who charge for their towing services
- They get huge sums for allow wrong parking in commercial areas from hotel/ shop owners. (Yes they do lift vehicles at a rate of one every 30 minutes), and that is like 1 out of 5000 offenders maybe.
- Some of the policemen don't even know what offences can be charged for (Signal jumping/ wrong side driving/ usage of high beam/ no stopping/ mobile phone while riding/
stopping past zebra crossing/ mirrorless riding/ driving on footpath are all so easily accepted). They only know about the pillion helmet violator and wrong parking
And there are the weekend traffic wardens who try to impose some sense by educating, but our people need harsher treatment than just roses/ yamraaj and Rahul dravid at signals.
