The initiative has been launched with an aim to promote the importance of obeying traffic rules and prevent accidents. So far, 50 riders / drivers have received these cash rewards and certificates.

As part of the initiative, the police conduct random checks to see if the driver is carrying the required documents like a valid driving license, insurance, etc. They also check whether the driver is wearing a seat belt / helmet, not using a mobile phone while driving and is obeying the speed limit. Drivers are also being put through a breathalyser test. Inspectors in charge of police stations have been given the job of choosing good drivers and awarding them the cash incentives on the spot.

Well, that's a pretty good initiative to appreciate the good drivers and riders which I am sure are a plenty amongst the sea of bad drivers/riders!

Perhaps the folks who get the certificates can display it on their vehicles so other road users see and get motivated!

Great Initiative I must say and a bold step too. clap:

I just hope, Top authority/Audit will not question respective department for these kind of expenses by categorizing as "avoidable expenditure".

Super initiative. More than the monetary reward, it's the impact of being seen doing a good deed that will make a difference. I'm sure all those who got this would be flaunting it on their Facebook, Whatsapp and what not. Sometimes, positive reinforcement might work just as well as the thread of punishment. We need to wait and see what changes take place post this drive.

It will also project the police as approachable folks as most motorists have a negative impression on cops. I wish this spreads to the other regions as well.

Good. this is also the first time that the Finance Minister has thanked the tax payer.

Looks like we are really changing. Let is hope the change in the mindset is for good.

Reminds one of: "You came first in class, so here's your award!"

Seriously? Handing out 100 rupees and a certificate to those who follow traffic rules? When one is expected to follow rules all the time?

What next? "Thank you for not robbing / murdering someone, here's your reward of Rs.100 and a certificate!" ??

Wonder who thinks up these schemes!? And what kind of a lawless country are we, where law abiding citizens need to be monetarily incentivised?
