Chennai continues to be the ‘Accident Capital’ of India.
India ranks top with highest road fatalities in the world.

This is a distinction Chennai can do without.

Statistics released on Saturday on road accidents in 2018 by the Union road transport and highways ministry’s transport research wing show that Chennai topped the list with 7,850 accidents in which at least 1,260 people were killed, and 7,438 people were injured.

Capital Delhi, which stood second with 6,515 accidents, however, topped the table in fatalities with 1,690 deaths.

The data shows that the number of accidents in Chennai went up from 7,257 in 2017 to 7,580 in 2018. Delhi, Bengaluru, Bhopal and Indore followed the state capital among cities where the number of accidents rose.

In regard to the number of people killed in road accidents, Delhi (1,690) and Chennai (1,260) are the major cities on the list, with Kanpur (698), Jaipur (692) and Bengaluru (686) following behind. The ministry’s transport wing analysed data comparing at least 50 major cities including Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai.

Quote:
The total number of accident-related deaths across the country in 2018 stood at 1,51,417, an increase of 2.3% over the figures for 2017.

The report claims that India ranks at the top with the highest number of fatalities, accounting for about 11% of such the world figure. The data is expected to help the policy makers put in place focused initiatives to address the menace of rising road accidents and resultant fatalities.

The ministry’s research wing has suggested that all state traffic planning cells hold discussions and come up with plans to restore road safety including engineering interventions like the identification of ‘Black Spots’ on roads and rectification of the same, working with the automobile industry for putting in place safety provisions like seat belt reminder, air bags, speed alerts, reverse cameras, anti-lock braking systems, a strong advocacy policy, etc.

Nothing surprising!! One day, I'll post a video of how Parents (subconsciously) teach their kids all sorts of monkey driving/riding when dropping at school, how teachers awesomely violate law inorder to punch in their attendance. It will be terrifically chaotic watching the mindless jokers

When the revenue of govt is through 5198 outlets of TASMAC & Police dept protecting the drunkards (with under table business) what else could one expect? Shenzhen?

And here's the state of affairs from neighboring state that gives stiff competition to TASMAC through BevCo - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/72090166.cms
