Re: Mahindra Thar gets 4 star safety rating by GNCAP

First of all, KUDOS & congratulations to Mahindra for this achievement. You deserve all the appreciation for your efforts on making Passenger Safety mainstream.
Secondly, I would love to see hoardings of TATA and MAHINDRA outside the showrooms of Suzuki/ Hyundai/ Kia/ Honda, specifically marketing about their well built solid cars with GNCAP ratings.

Its high time we start appreciating Nagraj or Super Commando Dhruv instead of Spiderman or Captain America.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Global NCAP has released the crash test results of Mahindra Thar 2020. The New Thar scores 4 Stars of safety rating and proved itself to be among safest cars in India.

Body Shell is rated as Stable. This proves that Mahindra has did a good job on reworking on the ladder on frame chasis.

Adult occupant safety is 12.52/17
Child occupant safety score is 41/49
SBR, ISOFIX and 4 Channel ABS are icing on the cake.

No chance!

Take a look at their comparable lifestyle product Jimny. When tested two years ago it scraped through with 3 stars at the Euro NCAP tests. That was the International version we are talking about, so a full safety spec of collision avoidance tech, lane-departure warning and six airbags among others. Spare a thought what an Indian Jimny would fare?

Will soon have Maruti fans defending the brand's izzat with statements like, 'the intended use of this car and drive accordingly, its okay.'

Re: Mahindra Thar gets 4 star safety rating by GNCAP

This is fantastic from Mahindra. I never expected a crash test result for Thar. 4 stars with a stable body shell is tremendous achievement for a vehicle of this class

What's even more surprising is the fact that Thar has the highest score on child safety 41.11 out of 49 bettering XUV 300 which had scored 37.4. Thar offers better value for money with this safety rating.

With this, Thar goes straight to 4th position on India's safest car list. Now top 5 of India's safest cars are from desi OEMs.

Those who were livid with Mahindra copying Jeep can now ask Jeep to copy safety parameters to make the 1 star wrangler better

Re: Mahindra Thar gets 4 star safety rating by GNCAP

This is a fantastic news for all of us! Those who booked / already got the Thar - have another reason to enjoy the fabulous acquisition.

Congratulations to Mahindra really. A JEEP body style car scores as much as 4 stars & that too including for child occupants. Can't ask for more. They have got the rating equal / better than simpler cars like Tiago-Tigor-Brezza-Polo.
Even the ESC was tested on outdoor track - videos are available officially on YouTube. The car has done well all round.

No doubt left about their engineering & product planning expertise anymore for anyone. They are no fluke. Doubters can look away.
TAKE A BOW MAHINDRA!

Also, the statistic that is emerging out of GNCAP tests, is actually starting to align with the old notion of "Jaad Patra (thick sheet metal) = Safe Car". Just coincidence?

P.S. - By any chance is there a recording available of the eerie silence in KIA India boardrooms when this test result news broke? The timing couldn't be worse for KIA. This has not been a good month for them on PR front.

Well, this is great! I'm glad the direction Indian auto makers are headed to. Also, perfect timing to retain the cancellations. Everyone cross shopping seltos/some other car has another reason to hold on to the Thar booking.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Here is the crash test video. Thar has acquired 4 star for adult as well as child occupants. Structure is rated as stable. Footwell area is rated as unstable, incapable of withstanding further loadings. Kudos to Mahindra, Both Mahindra and Tata are going towards right direction.

Secretary General of Global NCAP, Alejandro Furas said “Mahindra’s commitment to safer cars is once again displayed for consumers and shows that it is possible to offer good safety performance in the Indian market. It is encouraging to see manufacturers that also offer high levels of protection for children traveling in their vehicles.”
Quote:
Velusamy R, Chief of Global Product Development, Automotive Division, Mahindra., said, “This is a proud moment for Mahindra as the 4-star rating for the All-New Thar reiterates our unstinted commitment towards safety. It has achieved a robust GNCAP 4-Star rating, which is a first in its segment with highest points in child safety amongst all cars tested by Global NCAP so far.”

When they very well knew the corners they've cut while building the India spec Seltos, I think they pretty much saw the 3 star coming all the way. They must now be sitting happy that the 2 star mishap was averted by a whisker !

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Kudos to Mahindra here. I had actually seen a few comments on social media earlier where people doubted GNCAP ratings for THAR but this just shows that our Indian Manufacturers are now thinking about Safety from the design of the Product itself.
Great going and I am sure all of the owners who have already booked the Thar would be elated.

Kudos Mahindra. It's truly heartwarming, for a lack of better word to see our domestic products leading from the front.

On a side and weirder note, the Jeep Wrangler got a 1Star rating in Euro NCAP.

Re: Mahindra Thar gets 4 star safety rating by GNCAP

So Mahindra and Tata have the most cars in top 10 safer cars in India.
I find it more proud than having your cars in top 10 most sold cars.

Also, Notice that the Indicator on the other side was blinking (Hazard more after crash). Shows that the electrical system(critical) works perfectly post crash.

Re: Mahindra Thar gets 4 star safety rating by GNCAP

Commendable job my Mahindra for a ladder frame, flat front style body. Not to forget that a not so older version of Jeep Wrangler fared badly in crash test.

Happy to see that they have got the right ingredients to engineer to meet the global crash rating. I remember NCAP or Mahindra mentioning that the Marazzo can be a 5 star safety car with quite a few changes.

Shocking comparison isn't it? Although apples and oranges on so many levels. Highly likely that all the cars that have scored 5 stars in GNCAP stand a chance to score terribly if tested by EuroNCAP specifications.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Fantastic news. This should up the Image and the Global Made In India.

I work with international clients and I informed a few close associates about my purchase and sent them some pictures on whatsapp and they did not believe this was an all Indian vehicle. They said it was absolutely beautiful and for the price I paid they thought it was absolutely smashing Value for Money.

I have completed 400 Km's in 5 days of ownership. With every km the comfort with this car is increasing.

The Infotainment system is superb.

Also a new feature just came up in the infotainment called E- Manual. This was not present and there are plenty of instructive videos on this.

Oh by the way you can watch videos on the screen !

Also every time you switch off the vehicle the number of km's and time taken is displayed. Extremely useful.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

This solidifies my thinking that the new XUV500 and Scorpio will at least be rated 4 stars or better even, 5 stars.

Kudos to Mahindra. No one would have expected a lifestyle vehicle and that too one on a ladder frame chassis to score a respectable rating.
