Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

Has ASEAN NCAP released the full test report for the Magnite? If not, we should hold on to our horses and not congratulate Nissan yet.

Attached is a screenshot from the Honda City 2020 crash test report. Unless, I see a Indian origin car for India I am not sure if this test is actually relevant to us.

Nissan sales executive might be touting this result all over social media but we don't have to necessarily emulate them.

EDIT: Though I admit, I really want this to be true. If for nothing else than to just make the Koreans feel some modicum of shame.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

This rating does not mean anything unless they can confirm it was indeed the India spec Magnite with was crash tested. Just the fact that the car concerned was made in India doesn’t mean anything. It is totally possible that they are making an India spec Magnite and an export spec Magnite with different materials/specifications in the same plant. This has happened before can can possibly by the case here.

Unless there is a clarification or confirmation, we should put the celebrations on hold.

If in case it turns out that this was for the export spec car and the India spec is inferior, it will the Captur fiasco all over again. Hope the marketing team has learnt its lesson and such a blunder is not being repeated.

Really good , if the tested variant is base, which scored 4 stars. Then magnite will be the best value for money package. Kudos to nissan!!

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

A reviewer named Indra Fathan (who was the first to get spy shots of the facelifted Innova Crysta as a clay model) from Indonesia has mentioned that the Magnite is available in the Indonesian market as a CBU from India, so it is very likely that the Magnite that has been tested is made in India. But still let’s wait for more results.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

Oh boy, if the Indian Magnite manages to replicate the same performance in GNCAP, we are in for a treat, and an exceptional one at that. It totally deserves at least 6k/month if it can replicate the feat at that lucrative a price.

While I agree with the vast number of advisory posts by our fellow members here to take the ASEAN tests with a pinch of salt, 4 stars for a 4.99 lac CSUV still requires Credit where it's due.
We ve had a large number of reviewers, keyboard warriors and people who hadn't even laid eyes on the car making sweeping assumptions of the safety and build quality of the aggressively priced Magnite.

A 4star in any NCAP is definitely more than zero that similar priced cars have been awarded and will best those Koreans selling for twice the price.

The Magnite deserves it's fighting chance.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

The Nissan Magnite has been launched in Indonesia as a CBU from India, at 208.8m Indonesian Rupiah (roughly equivalent to around INR 10.74 lakh). Link to source. This could mean that it was the export version of the Magnite that was tested by ASEAN NCAP. While ASEAN NCAP has not released a report stating the rating validity for different markets yet, it seems more likely that it was the exported version of the Magnite that was crash tested. Of course, nothing can be said with certainty till the result details are out. However, some other manufacturers in Southeast Asia have been known to launch their cars on the or immediately after the day of release of ASEAN NCAP results in the past.

IIRC even CBU's from India are not the same for domestic and export. Maruti Swift and Spresso are examples of this. Has Nissan India posted about this from their official page yet, that should seal the deal once and for all.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

How many of you are confident that this Magnite built here doesn’t follow this manufacturing trend (South African Suzuki S-Presso safer than India-spec car?).

I would wait for the GNCAP to congratulate Nissan.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

While this is encouraging I think we should refrain from drawing conclusion about the India-spec Magnite. It's hardly relevant where the car is built, only thing that matters is which market it is built for. You can build euro-spec model in India, export it to the EU and the model can score 5 stars in Euro NCAP. But in India we'll get the watered down version with unstable bodyshell integrity. Having said that, I sincerely hope that the India-spec Magnite does well in Global NCAP.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

I belong to that crowd which, somewhere, believes that the car that is tested is more or less the one we get here.

While Maruti and Hyundai (even Kwid) can follow the double standards, as they have the advantage of volume, Nissan is far from having that advantage in any manner. Unlike Maruti, Hyundai, Kia etc which have large selling models, they can afford to build two separate chassis, purchase separate grade metal and still do everything on parallel production lines.

Are you guys sure that Nissan will save costs by adapting to that model for a few cars? It’s not for no reason that even MSIL and HMIL also give us the CBUs and better built cars (S Cross?) for their low volume sellers.

So, with the kind of volumes Nissan is playing with, I would assume that there is very thin possibility of them manufacturing two different chassis and hence, bear way higher costs than savings, in case of Magnite.

Everything is costs driven after all, and Nissan, IMO is not in the position of following that model at this point of time at least.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

Making a car that is safe enough to get 4 or 5 stars from GNCAP is not rocket science - every global manufacturer knows how to do it. We should realise that if the Seltos gets 3 stars or certain Marutis get zero stars, that is not because they don’t know how to build safe cars - it is because of a senior management call that Indians don’t pay for and deserve safety - and conscious engineering efforts to reduce the safety and cost of the product. Hence unless Nissan confirms that the India spec car is identical to the ASEAN spec car, or the India spec car is tested by GNCAP, let’s hold our horses. Publishing this in the context of the India car is meaningless. Plenty of Indians were misled by the Seltos’ great ratings from elsewhere - let us not be part of spreading misinformation on the Magnite as well.

Re: Nissan Magnite scores 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash test

Great job, Nissan! I hope our India-spec version is the same.

1. Nissan would have gone to town with press releases & ads if this was the same as the Indian car. But I haven't heard from them at all.

2. Could we compare the kerb weights? Although not a definitive way, it is surely indicative.

After the announcement of the 4-star rating by the ASEAN NCAP, I reached out to my sources at Renault-Nissan's India Factory. And I have some really positive news. Though the car tested and the given rating is applicable for the ASEAN region, it was actually the India-spec turbo variant exported for testing purposes. The Indonesian market will only get the turbo engine and the car will be the same as that of the Indian turbo-version, including the safety features.
