Another feather in Tata’s hat!
How about the Nexon? Has it been tested yet by GNCAP?

re: Tata Tigor EV gets a 4-star GNCAP safety rating

Compared to the Tigor/Tiago as tested earlier in 2020, this Tigor EV

1. Weighs in at 1470kg vs the earlier 1259kg

2. Both score 4 stars in adult protection. EV scores 12.0 out of 17, earlier car had scored 12.53

3. EV scored 4 stars in child protection with a score of 37.24 out of 49. Earlier car had scored 3 stars with a score of 34.15. A surprising improvement.

4. Chassis has been rated ‘unstable’ in both tests.

5. Details show that driver chest protection has actually improved in the EV compared to the petrol/diesel tested earlier last year. Passenger head protection has reduced a notch.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

The Tata Tigor EV achieved four stars for both adult and child occupants in the latest Global NCAP crash test.

The recently launched Tata Tigor EV was assessed in its most basic safety specification, fitted with two airbags as standard. Further improvement could be made to the Tigor rating by equipping the model with standard fitment of Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side impact protection, 3 point belts in all seating positions and ISOFIX connectors.

Excellent and expected results. Glad to see the promptness of Tata motors in sending all their cars for GNCAP tests. (Oh I forgot their flagships are yet to be tested )

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

I'm bit confused here. Crash tested car is really an EV version?

If you look the crash test closely you can see gear lever, what looks like AMT lever.

However, official photos of EV version has rotatry dial for gear selection.

Waiting for experts view on this.

Can confirm it is the rotary dial, or the white plastic bit ahead of the selector wouldn't have been visible. The blue inserts on the wheels are also a giveaway. An object seems to have flown from the back of the cabin to the region ahead of the gear selector thus creating an illusion of the presence of a gearlever during rebound, so your scepticism is understandable.

Not much new but I think it's fair to congratulate Tata again for another 4-star result for the Tigor (EV), this time complemented by a 4-star child safety rating too. Tata seems to have changed the recommended child restraints from Britax BabySafe (rearward-facing) for the 18 month-old and SafeFix (forward-facing) for the 3 year-old to both rearward-facing (a safer installation) Britax Max-Way restraints. This is probably what caused a bump up in child-safety star rating. I'm not sure if Tata would change the recommended restraints for the petrol-powered Tigor too. Interesting that the car could score 4 stars for child safety without ISOFIX though it would be nice if they made that available. Existing Tigor owners, do take note of the changed CRS recommendation, although I am not sure if there are any differences between the electric car and the petrol-powered one in the area of child restraint installation and performance.

Coming to adult occupant protection it is again good but there's a drop in 0.52 points from last time. 12.00/17.00 including 1.00 point for seatbelt reminders, so that means 11.00/16.00 for the offset-deformable barrier test alone. If not for the seatbelt reminders it would've been borderline 4 stars (with them it still comfortably achieves four stars with a buffer of 1.00-point) unlike the petrol Tigor that scored 11.52/16.00 for the ODB test (and hence 12.52/17.00 in total) which is in clear 4-star territory even without seatbelt reminder points. It looks like it lost points because the worst performing head is now yellow and not green. It's good that the chest protection has improved because an orange chest seemed out of place on a 4-star car. Nevertheless, it is still the best in the segment though it lags behind the other Tatas, especially because it picked up a lot of modifiers (variable contact/concentrated loading/integrity of the passenger compartment/footwell rupture) which Tata seems to have ironed out for the 5-star cars.

Still, a commendable rating for the Tigor and I hope they aim for both of the 5th stars with the new Punch. I'm glad it has become a habit for Tata to sponsor tests before launches, it shows their confidence in the product. Considering the lack of funding for SaferCarsForIndia, more manufacturers really should take more advantage of the sponsorship program.

+1 to that. I think TML must aim for 5 star rating for all their models. They should not be proud of the 4 star anymore, that's a given. This is what happens when you raise the bar. And they also have Mahindra around to remind them from time to time.

Re: Tata Tigor EV gets a 4-star GNCAP safety rating

Fantastic news for future mobility of course. Congratulations to TML and the team involved for achieving another feather for the cap.

However - what this result actually reminds me quickly is that the following 2 cars are still not tested at GNCAP, while the latest launched car gets tested!
  1. Nexon EV/2020ICE (Especially noteworthy since Tata has stopped claiming the 5 star safety rating for it since 2020 Nexon arrived. Obviously some changes in the face of the car or somewhere, mean it needs to be tested again to claim the certification.
  2. Harrier / Safari

Tata better get this balance right. Otherwise everyone surely is going to note that cars launched later are getting tested but already established ones are conspicuously untested. Especially with Xuv7oo being rumoured to ace with 5 star rating - this is going to be crunch time for TML, in a suddenly safety conscious market. (Funnily, the safety pitch started from Tata to a large extent!)

Re: Tata Tigor EV gets a 4-star GNCAP safety rating

Congratulations to Tata Motors for being serious in the safety and giving safe cars for Indians (though Harrier is an exception for the oil filter issue until crash tested). Watch and learn Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia. No wonder why Tata Motors is now top 3 in Indian mass market car sales. Now their Nexon and Altroz are now outselling Venue, Sonet and the i20 in last month's sales. Keep it up Tata Motors.
