Re: Tata Punch Review

Punch has got a higher score for both adult and child protection than the current leader XUV300. Great job by Tata. All their new models (except Tigor) have got better safety scores than the previous ones. Punch is the first car to get Chest protection as good for both driver and passenger?

Punch > (XUV300) > Altroz > Nexon.

Awesome Tata. Below Nexon, Tata has become a really strong player and can directly infringe on Maruti's teritory if they are not careful. However above Nexon we are hearing a lot of issue from the owners which they can hopefully get better yet.

For now, take a bow for producing the cheapest (most likely) 5 star safety rated car in India.

I hope TATA sends Harrier and Safari to the GNCAP and puts an end to the speculations.

Reading beyond the stars:

* Stable body structure - Check
* Adequate + protection for front passengers - Check. I think knee airbags would have made it all green.
* Child protection - Check.

While I am not so insistent on ESP or side-curtain. How hard is it to provide 3-point seat belt for the middle passenger? Am not nitpicking Tata here, as this happens across the board with all manufacturers.

Another minor detail (which you probably already know), the car was tested in late August (34th week). That said, kudos to Tata for another excellent result.

Impressive numbers for the small platform.

Not really. KIA has done and surpassed this. What Tata and Mahindra have done now is the easy part. The difficult phase is yet to come.

Also safety is important but never a big selling point in the automobile industry. Volvo will tell you that. It reached a point where Geely took it over. As long as you have enough of it, safety ceases to be an differentiator. The danger for me vis-a-vis Tata Motors is that it is the only differential selling point while Hyundai and Maruti have multiple.

During the 2008 crisis Americans were dumping their pick-ups and SUVs by the dime a dozen and picking up Toyotas and Hondas by the dozen. You could sell a used Corolla for more than you bought it. So figuring how to make your platform more efficient helps in the long term.

Drive on,
Shibu.

And Tata does it again . Now they just have to improve their quality control and after sales and Maruti will soon realise they can't take everything for granted (it would be too late for them by then). Mahindra and Tata surely are causing some trouble to rivals and the original tin can makers are feeling the heat.

Meanwhile Maruti chairman : "Government should also help us to make safe cars", (kyunki humaare bas ki nhi hai).

re: Tata Punch secures a full 5-star rating in the GNCAP

People were trying to figure out the meaning of this cars name in context of performance. This is the true meaning they wanted to convey I guess ! Punch as in actual "physical impact" and Punch" as in 5 .

Come on TML, turbo-petrol, torque convertor (or even CVT) for a proper auto-box please ! That is all that is remaining on the basic wish list of customers.

re: Tata Punch secures a full 5-star rating in the GNCAP

And with this 5* rating, the Punch may well successfully punch its way into the already crowded small car segment - with KUV, Ignis, Kiger, Magnite.

The Punch is already the most powerful of this lot. If it gets priced properly, then customers in this ultra-price sensitive segment will benefit from a 5* SAFE car also

Kudos to TATA for taking the first step towards curing the "small car = not safe car" disease.

Consistently delivering safe small cars, full credit to them.

Tata, now please give the Punch some punch under the hood and it would be a complete well-rounded product.

Re: Tata Punch Review

Awesome and kinda expected as Altroz already has a Fifer . Best part is the improvement in child protection

This will help the small section of people who value safety over bling. Now only if this gets a proper AT with the turbo engine

re: Tata Punch secures a full 5-star rating in the GNCAP

Kudos to Tata for this achievement. Now, Tata ought to give it more engine options.

A note to Kia/Hyundai: please don't embarrass your customers. A car from atleast two segments below is much safer than a Seltos/Creta.

re: Tata Punch secures a full 5-star rating in the GNCAP

1313 is the crash test weight Based on my readings, the NCAP's simulate crash between two cars of the same weight, so the Punch is almost as heavy as the 20 lac Korean deathtraps !!!

Put in that 1.2 turbo petrol motor, and tell the world that you're fast too.

Big congrats TATA- you're marching ahead in the right direction.

re: Tata Punch secures a full 5-star rating in the GNCAP

Fantastic result! This comes at a time when the market (somewhat) understands what it means to have GNCAP 5 stars and relatively where that stands, compared to 2018 Nexon launch where these very words were Greek and Latin to the casual buyer. Kudos to Tata (and also Mahindra) for setting the stage and taking it all the way.

It is quite satisfying to overhear one brag about good crash test ratings to another
