The bodyshell and footwell area was rated as stable and they were capable of withstanding further loadings. The car offers standard Seatbelt Reminders (SBR) for driver and passenger. PS: Have one question though, why didn’t the curtain airbags open in the side impact test, considering the variant was AX7L?!

Re: Mahindra XUV700 secures 5 Star safety rating in GNCAP

Kudos to Mahindra. 5 star rating with 2 airbags variant states the confidence Mahindra has in this product. Higher variant with curtain airbags, ESC, ADAS will score more points in overall safety.

This shows that TATA definitely has some issues with Harrier & Safari and it can't score 5 star as TATA sends the cars voluntarily for crash tests.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 secures 5 Star safety rating in GNCAP

This is great and along expected lines. Hope this doesn't result in a price hike.

Kudos to Indian OEMs for manufacturing cars that are actually safe. Especially Mahindra and Tatas they have delivered safe cars over the last few years consistently.

As GTO often says if only they can launch a car with minimal or zero post launch issues, then it would be a brilliant proposition. Hoping to pick up a XUV 700 in another 2 years, until I have another car that would be value for money and can push me to pull the trigger.

Cheers,
Diwakar

Re: Mahindra XUV700 secures 5 Star safety rating in GNCAP

XUV 700 -
Adult occupant protection - 16.03
Child occupant protection - 41.66
Tata Punch -
Adult occupant protection - 16.453
Child occupant protection - 40.891
Missed the 'Safest Indian Car' tag by a whisker, that aside a commendable job by Mahindra, and I am more or less assured that all their future cars will be built from ground up with the aim for a high safety score.
One concern though, the side airbags didn't get deployed in the side impact test eve though it was AX7L variant ; is it possible to turn them off in any way?

Congratulations to M&M. The 5 star rating seems to be a common act for them now. And they are doing it with ease. Feels very happy to see Indian OEMs set such high standards and meet them consistently. Great work.

Brilliant as expected from the XUV 700! Mahindra have promised safe cars and are delivering safe cars.

With Tata Punch's recent score and now this - it's exactly the kind of competition we need between car manufacturers in India.

Big question mark for the Harrier / Safari and the Hector now.

Why isn't the curtain airbag deployed during side crash?
The side crash model appears to be top of the trim variant

Commendable job Mahindra! This was expected. Kudos for keeping up to the expectation. No other Indian SUV in this segment has official 5 star safety. Icing on the cake for XUV700 aspirants and owners! This will definitely bring up more numbers and waiting period.

re: Mahindra XUV700 scores 5 stars in the GNCAP

Wow that's brilliant from the Indian Manufacturer.

Congratulations to all involved in the project & heartiest congratulations to all those looking to buy this vehicle.

I'm sure this safety rating will result in more sales over competition (Safari ~ untested) & Hector + (dubious safety, refer other thread on same & safety ratings not issued yet despite test conducted months ago). I hope it can convince few to buy a pair of XUV700s over 1 Fortuner (again untested & has DPF issues too).

I wish it helps change the perception of Indian buyer for this kind of vehicle from Indian manufacturer (s).

re: Mahindra XUV700 scores 5 stars in the GNCAP

I am a bit curious about the side impact test. I thought that the XUV 7OO tilted over quite dangerously on impact. I dont know why they didnt show it moving across sideways like they do for other side-impact tests.

See the Tata Punch example below.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 secures 5 Star safety rating in GNCAP

The higher the mass, the more difficult it is, to achieve high crash safety scores.
That is probably the most compelling argument, as to why the Punch scores a few more points.

Nevertheless, Credit must be given where it's due.
It's an excellent achievement by Mahindra.

Meanwhile, It is high time, Tata & MG must send their mammoths to the test site and end the mystery.

The variant tested seems to be the MX, since the report card says "2 Airbags".

Generally, the cars tested are the base variants hence my assumption that it could be MX. It could also be the AX3 which I think comes with 2 airbags as well.

What a commendable result indeed! I guess we all kinda knew this going by the material of construction. One of my batchmates did the procurement for body panels and he said the level of quality requirement stipulated by product teams were quite high. He was convinced that it would score 5-star.

Good job Mahindra!!
