Noida: Rs 10,000 fine for driving commercial vehicles without reflective tape

According to the Noida Police, all vehicles plying in the city are required to have reflective tapes. Owners will be fined Rs 10,000 if they are found driving vehicles without the glowing tapes.

Noida: Rs 10,000 fine for driving commercial vehicles without reflective tape-72a63c8d881b355c563c23afd9dfb33bea6e8a26_original.jpg

The decision to make reflective tapes mandatory has been taken in a bid to prevent accidents during inclement weather, especially foggy conditions during winter. The traffic police have also undertaken a drive to install reflective tapes on barricades, road signs and other traffic furniture.

The roads around Noida are notorious for accidents caused due to poor visibility during winters. The reflective tape would help warn oncoming traffic of a potential hazard.

Would this be required with integrated DRL based vehicles?

re: Noida: Rs 10,000 fine for driving commercial vehicles without reflective tape

When a 130/100 w headlight or yellow fog light is not able penetrate the fog and become visible to oncoming traffic to prevent accidents during winter, how can a simple reflector light penetrate a dense fog and prevent accidents?

The amount of light falls on these reflectors during foggy day itself is very weak(may be 30-40% as compared to a non-foggy day). The reflection from these reflectors will be 60-65% of the incident light. And by the time the reflected light reaches the drivers eye, it would not be even 10% of the original light.

I think the real motive in implementing this two fold. Reflector manufacturers to be benefited with enhanced business from this law . Second, government revenue to be increased by imposing penalties for innocent owners.

Ridiculous and shame on Government to implement such useless rules and penalties

Another day, another brainless diktat.

Shame on the administration for such a stupid idea and an even stupider fine amount. Clearly, the real intention here is to make as much ‘revenue’ as possible. Safety is a convenient bogey.

How does this help during daytime?

Authorities should install proper LED signage, road blinkers etc first and not just pass the burden to the common man and try to extort money.

So finally all cars will look like this (all commercial vehicles need to have this here) :

I have been reading about this for a week and still can't figure out where and how much needs to be applied? Or do I need to get entire car wrapped ?

This reminds me that the Hilux which is a N1 category vehicle will get these reflective stickers on the front and rear bumpers as standard. Not the commercial vehicle (yellow) ones, but white reflective stripes.

re: Noida: Rs 10,000 fine for driving commercial vehicles without reflective tape

Quoting the article on CarToq (https://www.cartoq.com/reflective-ta...fog-mandatory/)

Quote:
A few days ago, it began as an experiment, where Noida Traffic Police requested people to paste reflective tapes on vehicles passing through the DND Flyway toll plaza. The experiment has now become an essential move. All the people who will now be seen without riding or driving with reflective tape on their vehicle will be fined Rs 10,000 by the Noida Traffic Police. The said fine has now been inducted in the Motor Vehicle Act.

Usually, all passenger vehicles and two-wheelers come with red-coloured reflectors on their rear as a part of the traffic norm. However, some commercial vehicles are plying on the road, which either doesn’t come equipped with these reflectors or have them broken off intentionally or unintentionally.

The vehicles which already come with the red-coloured reflectors which are not tampered with will not be fined under this new rule. So, for all those vehicles which are being used without reflectors at the rear, it has now become necessary to get a reflector pasted on the back of them as soon as possible.

What is a reflector?

All the motor vehicles sold in India come with reflectors placed on their rear below the tail lamps, or in some cases, on the rear bumper of four-wheelers. While a two-wheeler like a motorcycle or a scooter has only one reflector, the four-wheelers usually get two. These red-coloured reflectors are made of glowing elements like radium, which reflect the light that falls on it even in low-light and worse weather conditions.

The reason behind the use of reflector tapes
The low visibility of vehicles during foggy weather or low light is one of the main reasons for road accidents in India. It is one of the major causes of accidents in Northern India during winters, when even the fine and high-speed highways are clogged with heavy fog, thus resulting in low visibility that hampers the vision of the motorists. According to the records of the traffic police of Gautam Budh Nagar in Noida, a total of 798 accidents took place in 2021, which claimed the lives of 368 people in 2021.

I think perhaps someone should write the following text in reflective tape behind their car.

“Idiotic rules from UP cops”.

There. Have complied with your requirements.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Haha! Hahaaaaaaaahhh!
Yes, that was a painful, aneurysm inducing, rage induced laugh.

I guess this is the best we can hope from those barely educated (!), functionally retarded and criminally immoral bureaucrats, their masters and their dogs. Yet another validation to my resolve to always purchase vehicles much below one's means so as to pay as little in taxes as possible. I am done feeding the parasites.

It’s a rule they are bringing just when the Summers are about to set in. The cops will make money all through the months of March/April/May and will forget about it when the next year foggy season starts. Gosh!

I thought the lawmakers (IPS, IAS) are highly qualified.

I also find it curious that people would rather call it "Radium" tapes rather than Reflective tapes.
I mean imagine the Geiger counter going tak-tak if everyone actually puts Radium on their cars

Why not fine the truckers without undercarriage protections and rash drivers/riders who are happily posting videos on Tik-tok or Insta of their riding/driving prowess.

re: Noida: Rs 10,000 fine for driving commercial vehicles without reflective tape

Came across the following article which seems to suggest that almost all the private vehicles comes factory fitted with reflectors so none of the private vehicles would be fined.

This is for commercial vehicles which does not necessarily come with reflectors at the back.

Read this:

Cheers!

What about those numerous tractor trolleys plying without any rear lights, causing so many accidents every day. I think they are exempted from having one by the road traffic authorities.More so their sizes have been increasing incessantly and may one day end replacing trucks and trailers altogether from the roads.

Maybe the opening post with the reflector on the side needs to be updated if the news/law is specific to rear reflectors.
