Hi All,

In some car catalogs i have seen only ABS option present where as in some there will be ABS and EBD option.

One of the car showroom guys told that ABS will come with EBD.

is it true with all car manufacturers?

how to check if EBD is there or not?

Rajs

EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distributor) is separate from ABS (Anti-lock Brakeing System). ABS pulsates the application of the brake force to each wheel irrespective of individual wheel loading. But EBD takes into account individual wheel loading to decide how much pressure goes to each wheel.

So in laymans terms although the ABS might be integrated/piggybacked with the EBD system, but both can exist independently without the presence of the other.

The Palio 1.6 GTX SP came with ABS and EBD. I dont know about the current Swift ZXi.

Swift ZXI and SX4 ZXI comes with ABS & EBD. I think if ABS is installed EBD should also come, because at the back of the car only ABS is written though both are available.

elentra has ebd with tsc and abs

even the fiesta has it

ebd is nothing it just control the amount of pressure on each wheel

Not... Innova comes with only Abs in V model while Skoda Laura has Abs with Ebd.

Check the brouchre of the particular car..

Yup ABS automatically does not mean EBD. ABS can exist without EBD. I think even the skoda vRS has no EBD.

Can ABS with EBD system be retrofitted on a car?

Not that I know of, atleast in India. I am certain 90% of the showroom guys too wouldn't know either.

The RS has EBD i think along with ASR, TCS and what not.

No EBD... only ABS. I asked the skoda sales chap specifically and he said it has no EBD. Even the website makes no mention of EBD. It does have traction control IIRC.

Yup i checked the site too just to confirm, it doesnot have EBD, quite shocking to know even Swift has EBD.

Thanks for the information guys...

I think these how showroom people cheat saying it has ABS/EBD/TCS even though it has only ABS.

By the way do you guys know how to check if EBD is installed or not?

i have read that ABS and EBD basically share about 90% of parts.....EBD is more or less left to the configuration of the ECU.

I am told EBD reduces spin:
Electronic brakeforce distribution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia also mentions that ABS/EBD have shown little improvement in braking distance. What's the opinion here in TBHP? Does ABS/EBD reduce braking distance?

Reducing spins/skids are helpful, but more often in India, we would need a reduced braking distance.
