OT: Doesn't coasting actually reduce fuel efficiency, at least in modern vehicles as fuel needs to be constantly supplied when the vehicle is in neutral? When in gear, the fuel can be cut off, on and off, as the driveshaft keeps the engine running?

What you say is true. Some people, even without wanting to faster, just hate the person in front!

But that is not what I meant to say: I meant cutting across, eg when taking a turn.

Brake Check
This Ecosport driver was driving like a maniac tailgating me and tried twice to overtake me when it was impossible - I was overtaking trucks and he tried to slide into the gap in front of me while still behind me (you can see that he is nowhere ahead of me!!) I chilled and allowed him to overtake me and he took the chance to showcase the Ecosport brakes with a few brake checks.

If you can follow the conversation with my FIL (in tamil) we were mentioning how rashly he was driving behind us and predicting how he would overtake us. The brake check that followed was unexpected, but I had slowed enough to avoid crashing onto him. The brake checks upset me and I wanted to give him a piece of my min, but a loaded xcent and a sensible FIL made sure I didnt get close to him again. He continued to drive rashly and was a few meters in front of us for quite a while, his hasty driving allowed him to gain a few minutes of his life and his road rage improved his pulse rate and BP.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Why overtaking especially a large vehicle from the left is such a bad idea.

The poor Ecosport, which is still running on temp plates got a nasty bruise on the bumper.

At 0:09 and 1:36, overtaking when you don't have a clear view of the road ahead. Since this was early in the day, just had 2 close calls.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Today on the way to work, there was a bus that was parking at the roundabout and I was approaching the bus at slow speeds, this biker then comes out and darts in front of me, causing me to brake. That was a surprise, as people are usually sensible in my office campus.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

I don't know whether to put this in the bad drivers thread or near miss thread or accidents thread. The bike entering the main road does not look well enough and thinks he can squeeze in. At these low speeds the bikes just bump into each other. Unfortunately some bikers extrapolate this behaviour to higher speeds and the results are not so innocuous.

I don't think there was a miss. It appears that the bikes collided. Such incidents are caused by the impatience of riders/ drivers. Waiting for a few moments before turning into another street is not something that is followed by many.

You may want to lower the view angle of your dashcam.

Yes, I lowered it the next day. I had adjusted the CPL filter and may have pushed the viofo lens upwards

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Encountered this Uber/Ola driver on my way to work.

Joins a state highway without even a cursory check, he actually changed lane immediately behind me and took a U-turn. Not sure he would have even noticed me if not for my honk. I had to check for vehicles if any on my blind spot and move across to the next lane. I know this is pretty common but these people get to me all the time. Had to mute the audio as it had few choice words in it.

A similar but a more confident (pun intended) specimen on a high speed corridor:

Late night, one way, curve, triples, no helmets...close shave!

Trying to save a few seconds, ends up falling hard on the road

Lunatic biker. No need of astrology to predict a short life! Defensive anti-idiot driving would suggest keeping further to left to increase one's view around the curve, but maybe you were about to take a right turn.

simply falling over indicates to me that the guy should not even be on the road. And yet, according to his backpack, he is not only riding, but riding professionally . Of course, he would blame the road surface. One might wonder what he has eyes for.

(I have no ability to balance on two wheels at all, so I strictly avoid, even as passenger.)

That was clear suicidal . The speed with which he is coming on to you is scary. And if something happens , the crowd will be all over you. Defensive drivers will tell you to keep left. But not always practical.
