Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Absolutely immature behavior by college kids. No one had helmet on and they were riding like idiots.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

I was shocked to see this today afternoon. The little girl was swaying and was nudging into the mother (?) who was driving. Such recipes for disaster but both child and lady seemed not to have a care and were oh so happy doing this.

Just why?! :(

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Seen on ECR, a couple of weeks ago. Two cars, obviously together. A Merc and a BMW. Sunroofs. One had one child standing up, the other had two. identical school uniforms.

Frankly, even the kids looked old enough to know better. I guess the parents are too old to learn.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

I try not to be on this thread but here's one where I was the idiot. The merging truck was wise enough to not give me a surprise but I think I banked on luck rather than good sense. Mostly these truckers don't give a hoot before merging.

Possible results:
  1. I was boxed in by the truck on right
  2. Had the truck merged when I was close to it , I'd have no option but to swerve
  3. Swerving would have led to a "pit manoeuvre" by the truck on my right sending me laterally into the oncoming lane
  4. In India undertaking is super risky unless the road ahead is entirely clear and you are at a low speed of say 30kph and can come to a stop almost instantly
  5. If the following two events had happened at the same time I'd have to brake hard and it would have been a side underride with severe consequences: 1)the truck on my right had accelerated 2) Truck on the left had started to merge just as I approached it

Lessons:
  1. I violated several principle of defensive driving
  2. See the "big picture"-I did not predict that I'd get boxed in
  3. "Leave yourself an out"-I could have avoided getting boxed in by not undertaking the brown truck and by slowing down
  4. "If you recognize the hazard and know the solution, act immediately instead of adopting a wait and watch approach"-I knew that the truck was slightly intruding into my lane about 7 seconds away but I did not immediately slow down. I thought I had enough time to delay the decision and to brake if needed. This was the biggest mistake-I should have gradually slowed down to 30kph as soon as I saw the merging truck 7 seconds away

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

This happened on the new Bangalore-Mysore Expressway and near Mysore Entry.

The Eeco was driving on two lanes and the bus decided to change lane without indicator.
Suddenly an Ertiga jumps across and changed 3 lanes and moved to left lane without any indicator.

3 crazy and normal scenes as per our highway standards.

And this is in Mandya Town.

And this is near Amaravathi Restaurant, a little side swipe between i20 and Nexon.

And this one too.

Complete disregard for safety and other vehicles on road by our esteemed two wheeler riders is pretty common across towns in India. Kind of expected behavior when driving licenses are handed out like buying candies at shops.

On indicators, not giving any indicator, not slowing down when changing lanes and/or giving an indicator after you have already turned left/right are all the same - total disregard of safety and a buffalos attitude to driving.

Thanks for sharing the videos

What a nincompoop. I absolutely hate such drivers! He would have taken out the poor biker who would have suffered injuries to his limbs. Moving in and out as if he owns the road without checking mirrors.

Some people just deserve a motorcycle, as they drive cars like a motorcycle.
How come the car is intact without any dents around?

I have seen such drivers and it is easy to identify them, as their bumper etc are damaged.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

This happened on the Mysore Expressway.

The shoulder area is of not of standard size and this car was stopped on left lane without any hazard triangle or lights. Also, I do not see them diverting traffic with their hand too, so I suspect may be they're exchanging driver and front passenger seats.

And a Tow truck is crawling in the middle lane.

The shoulder looks all right; the standard 2m shoulder (just that there is some foliage at the far end). It is criminal of the driver to stop like that.

Perfect example of how not to overtake on hill roads. White Duster overtakes me on a blind curve, I had to take evasive action to avoid contact and to make things worse another car parked on the wrong side of the already narrow road.

Get a truck pressure horn and honk the hell out of that fellow next time. On a practical note honk for such morons even as you notice them in your ORVM or put out your right indicator to prevent him from overtaking so that he doesn't squeeze in later. We are in India
