Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Bad drivers can usually be spotted by just looking at their cars, I mean if the car seems like it hasn't been washed since ages and has lots of dents, misaligned bumpers, chances are that its mostly badly driven.

Also I make it a point to keep distance from "ricer" cars. Esteems/citys/balenos/lancers/zens/cielos with stickers like "4x4,playboy,sports,ferrari,etc" and big tacky "spoilers", "desi" neons, chinese alloy rims are usually driven by "wanna be" street racers.

Also I spot lots of bikers these days who do not use their headlights and forget to retract their sidestands.

Here is how I would spot bad drivers: -

The Guy has parked the car under a signboard that says no parking.
The driver feels tail-fishing is fun.
The driver leaves the car doors open obstructing the traffic on the road.
The driver who wants to overtake an already overtaking vehicle.
The guy (most of the Indian drivers) keep the front lamps on high beam even when it is not required!
The drivers who cut lanes too fast, too narrowly and without giving an indication.
The drivers who feel that to cross a railway barrier fastest is to reach it first with no respect of the basic traffic rule of keeping to the own side of the road.
The Guy who rides the car with non-functional lamps or badly damaged wind screens.
The guy who gets a sadistic kick in scaring others who are using the roads.
Least of all the guy who has no respect for the pedistrians, cyclists, old folks and children crossing the roads.

Notice how the pillow is strategically placed right in the middle, for maximum blockage of vision.

Add to the long list of tell-tale-signs, look for driver who sits with his chest just 2 inches away from the steering wheel, almost under the steering column, with head straight, looking for the 'front edge' of the car all the time. These guys wouldn't be able to see RVMs / ORVMs or even to his side through side windows and their only 'training' is to see in the 'front'. These guys would turn anywhere, as they would be ignorant of whats coming to their sides / behind. (Most Indicabbies I see in Chennai are of this category).

As a rule of Thumb, I avoid being close to a vehicle with a Yellow plate.

Getting through the morning rush in delhi has become a nightmare.there is no way you can get to where you want on time without driving like a madman. this might make me a bad driver in the eyes of other road users, but what gets my goat is getting rear ended while waiting at a red traffic light. happened today in the morning on the way to work. driving logically is taken as a sign of weakness on the roads of our city today. you literally have to scare the guy in front of you out of your way to get anywhere you want to.

and i love the three wheeler guys who use the center of two lanes, not wanting to use just one lane. *sigh Delhi and our traffic madness.

Most of the time the guy is driving on the wrong side.
Trying to overtake at blind curves.
On a narrow two lane road, his speed is constantly at 80 KPMH.

Narrowly missing a earth mover (commonly called JCB in many parts of Kerala), and then taking pride of the fact.
Driving style is that of high acceleration followed by hard braking.
Conversation trend indicates that these guys take lot of pride in driving rashly. No wonder they put it up in net as a show piece.

Torqy, I don't have words to describe what I feel after watching this video. I've imprinted them in my heart; will try to recall this video everytime before I ride/drive. It really is an eye opener. Thanks for sharing.

These junkies are maniacs who are attempting to commit suicide and killing innocent people at the same time.

I hate it when people enjoy such irresponsible acts. Their behaviour is like the uncivilised monkeys. Either they are from the STONE AGE or they are ALIENS from PLUTO.

Oh, that is one idiot no.1 behind the wheel. I see lots of drivers of his category on Hosur road in Bangalore and most of them are highly educated IT employees. I have already written about it in new elevated tollway thread.
