Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

I simply do not trust drivers who have their Left ORVM closed.

This short clip is from my early morning run to Tamhini.

People sitting on car’s balcony. :(

I think there is something in the air during the rainy season. Makes people more stupid than usual. I saw many idiots standing through the sunroof during the weekend drive. But I was very lazy to download and edit the dashcam footage.

He doesn't care about the traffic signal, nor the traffic cop. Didn't even check for vehicles coming from my side.

I always wonder how this type of riders survive on our roads! They can't be lucky all the time.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Not a bad driver in the way he was driving, but what he was driving. Truck (Tanker) with wafer thin RUPD (Rear Underrun Protection Device). In case any unfortunate car driver rear ends this truck at good enough speed, chances of survival will be next to zero.

Sorry for the bad quality of photo due to dashboard reflections. Tried to edit it, still not good enough.

Reminds me of a video where a foreigner was trying to make sense of my we had so many gods in our religion. He said something on the lines of the thousands of gods are working overtime as guardian angels to protect Indian drivers.

Sad, but true.

Questions: Do you trust any of the drivers who have their left mirror open?

Because I don't.

This must be connected with the fact (by my observation is is a fact) that the very worst driving takes place on festival days.

In Trivandrum, we have drivers who fold both ORVMs (It is costly! what if some one / something hits and breaks it????), block IRVM also by loading all kids toys, teddy bears on the tray behind the rear seat!!!!
They are the "forward" looking citizens!
Why to look at the back and sides troubling one's self / brain?

OT: Reminds of an anecdote that happened to a friend of mine. Get's in car to go for a drive, another person comments "what? you still use your mirrors while driving?"!!! As if only learners are supposed to use mirrors!

I had this conversation with an Indicab driver in Madurai, circa 2013. He was all praise for "real" cars like the Ambassador which wouldn't crumble in accidents. Today's cars are sissies, he said, because they crumble upon impact. Um, right.

And yes, external rearview mirrors are for sissies too, he said. He only had the one internal RVM in his Indicab. Right.

These are the riders/drivers that are the part of the lakhs of indians who die on the roads every year. :(

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

How NOT to drive a 5.3 meter pick up truck

0:00 - 0:18 - Making a blind turn in front of a parked vehicle. He should have taken the other exit of the bunk, behind the lorry.

0:18 - 0:38 - Seriously? An overtaking maneuver at that point, when you can clearly see oncoming traffic??

0:38 till end - This is the worst. He almost tripped off the two wheeler off the road. The two wheeler rider and pillion were lucky that their scooter did not skid on the muddy part of the roadside.

After seeing his driving, I intentionally slowed down so that he might lose the motivation to drive fast to not let the car at his back to overtake.

I wish people mind their vehicle's dimensions, and for God's sake, have some patience and common sense.
