the elantra had stability control. i dont think any other car in that price range has stability control.

Most of these acronyms are just popularized/trademarked by specific manufacturers to denote
their version of traction control. (TC, TCS, ESP, ESC, A-TRAC etc)
The same way as different manufacturers have different acronyms for variable valve timing etc (VTEC/MIVEC/VVT etc)
Although the systems wont be exactly the same, they will do basically the same thing to keep the car in control.
I think "ESC/ESP" is popular with Mercedes.

I own an Elantra
it has TCS for stability but not ESP.

how different? TCS is traction control whereas ESP is Electronic Stability program which means the same..can you elaborate please?

Traction Control is more on reducing or Nullifying wheelspin during acceleration.
ESP to my limited knowledge prevents the "Car itself" from spinning out of control. Start page youtube links had them briefed.

driven an elantra. when you get wheelspin the tcs comes on. driven an audi a6. when you get wheelspin the esp comes on. both are about the same.
Is it possible to add ESP to existing cars which has ABS, because ABS module has all the details of each wheel spin and need a device to get information from the steering wheel how much sudden rotation it does.

abs deals with the brakes. AFAIK esp/tcs modulate the throttle to reduce wheelspin.

not exactly.
Check out the video for sonata agcs vs accord. this is somewhat like TCS. Traction Control System. take a steep turn, your suspension tends to bend and other 2 wheels gets less traction but with TCS it controls traction for all the tyres. It is done by controlling the suspension.
Role of TCS in wheel spin. You are true in this part. But here suspension work is also there. I tried wheel spin with TCS on standing idle. It happened without any power loss. may be minor but yes while taking steep cuts at high speeds TCS helped me a lot.
TCS also do the same but it is not synchronized as ESP. It is just to make good grip of the tyres. Depends on the driving condition.
Where as ESP reduce the engine speed and auto apply brakes slightly to speed down. Whereas TCS don't do it everytime.
Both of them co-relates with the ABS and compliment each other :)
There is one more feature seen in cars in Europe. The feature is as follows.
If a vehicle with this feature is going behind a truck and if some thing falls from the truck then this feature uses the sensors and moves the car to the left lane or right lane to avoid hitting the fallen object avoids the damage. I do not know the name of this feature, I think this is part of ESP.
EBD is simlar to ESP/ESC

EBD is not similar to the ESP because EBD is the brake force distribution depends on the surface. It compliments with ABS. Sometimes on Wet Conditions along with pit holes we get uneven braking force only with ABS. EBD Controls the force on all the tyres.
Whereas ESP, automatically applies brakes slightly to slow down the car, Depends on how much the car is steering along with the fuel cut off.
