Horrifying, like something out of a realist war movie. Not something you expect on a routine day in a country at peace.
But consider this. They lived. 300 other Indians did not, today. And must have met even bloodier ends. As will another 300, tomorrow.

But of course! We should lead by example. If we strictly abide by the rules with these stickers on our vehicles, it may give rule breakers a pause and make them think. May be they will think twice before yelling or honking at us.

Perhaps we can also select the most law abiding cab/auto/bus drivers from each city and honour them on behalf of TBHP. This can be done during the TBHP meets.

The power to change that will be brought to bear on this subject if all TBHPians do this for as long as they drive, is immense, given the number of other people that will be touched by them on the roads everyday. History has seen that many of transformations in societies have been caused by the dedication of one man/woman to make a different world. This community has that power multiplied many many times over by being the change it wants to see. The key question is, does it want this enough to change at the individual level, and not be concerned about everything else that is not working in India?
If the answer to this is yes, then in a much shorter time than anyone imagines, transformation can happen.
Going by the history of other countries and projecting these for India, ordinarily, the road accident statistics will take as long as 2042 to level off.
So, if we do not do anything at all, and remain spectators, the process will take as long as that. Of course, more of us, our family members and our friends will perish in a road accident because of our choice.

There are certain things under our control and some cannot be changed overnight coz we have no control over it. Infrastructure, enforcement and all that the government can do falls in the later category. Buildings cannot be demolished and roads widened overnight nor can the RTA be reformed but we have the power to change ourselves and its time to use that power. If we are reckless and have the "I dont' care" attitude our children watching and lewarning from us will do the same and roads are never going to be safer.
Lets be the change we dream of. Lets not be part of the problem but part of the solution. Each time u see someone making a mistake and breaking a rule tell them politely and embarass them. follow rules yoyrself and some others will follow watching you.
I have started an NGO called SOCH. All are welcome to support in whichever way possible. Please have a look at soch.in

Just did. Fantastic start! Have you thought of making a ten commandments kind of crisp list - ten or less, or it gets to be laundry list, five may be optimum - that every subscriber to these can stick on the back of his vehicle. Both with pride, and with the consequence of being embarrassed if violated?!
If so, can you share it here?

A nice idea Gansan, I think one such initiative is already present in BLR, where the local Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus drivers are awarded for accident free driving for the year.

A few years ago when the BMTC introduced Volvo buses into its fleet, these were the drivers who were posted to drive.

Went through your site, great start. We should be able to spread it across the whole country. Yes, resources is a problem, hope we will be able to overcome it as a team.

Remember, when you really want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Kerala Government is going to make seat belts mandatory in school buses. I feel it is a good initiative.

. Someone who has taken this as a mission is someone to be greatly admired. There has to be a way to get TeamBHP behind this. And for us to individually do what we feel bound to do.

I have made some suggestions on improving the road condition in another thread. I am putting up the link here for it:
