Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching fire in India

A red Nissan Micra caught fire on its own, luckily all occupants were lucky to get out in time. This happened in Jagatpura an outer area of Jaipur.

Sadly yes is true. The car was supposedly running an aftermarket exhaust and some power ups. Unconfirmed reports also mentioned that it was running NOS but as i said thats still a rumor. THe car in question was being revved by the driver to kingdom come and we were following it en route where it was happily revving (and over revving) on every given opportunity. Maybe the fuel was leaking which lead to a spark due to over heating caused by the over revving and finally what started as smoke from the engine bay turned in huge flames in a matter of seconds and engulfed the entire car. Ill post some pics in a while but it was sad what happened. I was also told by an official of the super car club that the car was not a part of their entourage....then what was it doing in the parking lot? Anyways who cares.... i am just happy that no one was hurt and feel real bad for the loss of such a wonderful piece of engineering.

Taken from my mobile. I have others taken from my SLR which i will post later.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching fire in India

According to a news channel the owner of the car has lodged a FIR against Audi. He has stated that the car went for service a week ago and it was the first time he drove the car after service.
He is blaming Audi for this incident.

Here is Indian Express' article on the same:

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/ow...ation/1065941/

... & the company is as usual blaming mods carried out by the owner for the fire . The Germans are master at this... their cars are not reliable, service is costly & cost of ownership is high, but, they get away will all these because they are built like tank & fly low (rather than ride on roads). All because they are perceived as premium brands.

In the second half of the report, there is news on an Alto going up in flames:

Quote:
Alto goes up in flames

A Maruti Alto taxi caught fire near Mahalakshmi Temple on Bhulabhai Desai Road Monday night. The fire control room received a call at around 8. pm and rushed a fire tender to the site. "I was exiting Mahalakshmi Temple with wife and was waiting for my car when I saw the taxi pass, its underside on fire. My driver sped after it, calling out to the driver to stop. Finally, he managed to get him to stop and get out. A constable rushed to help and some residents poured water but it was of no help. The fire brigade arrived after around 35 minutes, by which time the taxi was destroyed. I don't think it will even be worth scrap now," said business consultant K K Govindan, an eyewitness.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching fire in India

From yesterday - ORR (Bonglur to Gachibowli section), Hyderabad - looked like a Ford Fiesta Classic (I may be wrong).

Could not stop on the expressway & inquire much as police was shooing away everyone.

Looking at
- parking on the emergency lane &
- the open door
I sincerely hope the occupants got out in time.

After all the incidents of vehicles catching fire in India, here is a report of an incident in California, US. A bride & her friends were burnt alive when a limousine they had rented burst into flames!
