In my opinion, the door could have got stuck due to the impact and hence may be the driver was not able to open the door. A sad incident though.

Most biker's never do a full tank while filling up so fuel overflowing doesn't seem right. Also, from the video, the attendant just started filling up and there is fire almost like there was full tank of petrol already inside the vehicle. Something isn't adding up there.

No idea how this happened but this Getz GLS caught fire/was set on fire a couple of weeks ago in the middle of the night on our street, just outside our home. A neighbours dog started barking and woke them up and they called the police however not much could be done. Owner of the burnt car is not known and car is still there.

Was stunned since we own a 10 year old Getz GLS.

No causalities. Bus only had 4 passengers and all got down safely, driver (as usual) ran away.

That is a Volvo for sure. The Mercedes has a tag axle at the last, where as the Volvo has it in the middle. The live axle of the burnt bus is the last one.

Other points which confirm are the first window of a Volvo bus swoops down towards the front doors, where as the Merc has a flat window line. Merc buses are 'boxier' than Volvo's. The curved profile can be seen from the rear view of the bus.

A major Tragedy was averted when an Omni caught fire at a Petrol Bunk here in Mangalore but the fire was doused by timely action of the staff. By the time I passed by, the flames had been doused by the staff & Fire tenders had arrived. I did not stop or take pictures myself, but these pictures and reports are from a local news website.

The Omni car had come to the petrol bunk to fill LPG. Soon after filling, the driver turned on the ignition and the car caught fire all of a sudden. The driver immediately got out and fled away. The alert staff pushed the vehicle out of the petrol bunk and started dousing the fire using extinguishers. At the time of the incident, a gas tanker was also in the premises for unloading fuel. Luckily, the fire did not spread to any other vehicle or the petrol kiosks.

Manorama News in Kerala has reported a fatality following a car catching fire while being driven in Pala, a place in Kottayam district. Though the make of the car is not mentioned, its obvious from the pictures that its a previous generation Ford Figo. The fire has been attributed to a short circuit. Could any member tell how such short circuits happen and whether the manufacturer or something else could be at fault?

Sharing an issue with the Terrano faced by a friend based in Pune:

"We purchased diesel Nissan Terrano last year. The vehicle has run only approx 3,500 kilometers till now. On 18th October last, we drove a little over 100 kms from Pune and as soon as we started climbing the ghat towards Mahabaleshwar, within a few meters, there were fumes and terrible burning smell from the engine. The car had to be towed to service centre.

After the incident, initially the technical expert at the dealer's very confidently asked us to take the car and drive, telling us that he had done a test drive already. I am a single woman driver, have been driving for last 20 years, have driven a few brands and have never had any problem like this. I was uncomfortable and requested them to take it for test drive with me for the same run for the engine to warm up and start the bit of hill climb. The vehicle had exactly the same problem at the same place for the second time and they had to tow the vehicle back.

Now for almost one month the vehicle is in the service centre and they are not providing us or committing any written report for what went wrong in writing. They are suggesting free clutch plate replacement. However our concern is what if the problem is beyond clutch plate?

I have been asking them for escalation mechanism, email ids and contact numbers but there is no word from the dealer."

Any suggestions as to what can be wrong?

This is really surprising as i had high regards for the 1.5 K9K Diesel unit.

How long is the car in warranty ? IMO after these incidents your friend should ask for an extended warranty to start with

Everything happened so fast that 32 yr old Dr Jitendra Parmar did not even get a chance to stop and get out of the burning car.

Based in Navasari, Gujarat, 32 year old Dr Jitedra Parmar (also known as Jitubhai Ranchhodbhai Parmar), was killed inside his car recently. Earlier this week, while travelling back to his home from a temple, the Maruti Celerio diesel (GJ 21 AQ 3545) which he was driving caught fire. The incident took place at about 6:45 AM, on the Navsari – Surat highway.

Even before Dr Parmar could bring his car to a halt, it was engulfed in flames. One of the busiest highways in the region, a brave passerby (Mr Dinesh) even tried to save Dr Parmar. He parked his bike (Hero Splendor – GJ 21 D 4725) ahead, and ran towards the burning Maruti Celerio. But not only the car was on fire, it was still in motion. Before Mr Dinesh could realize, the car hit his bike which was parked on the side of the road. Mr Dinesh even burnt his hands in the mishap.

By the time fire brigade officials arrived, a huge number of people had gathered. It took about 15 minutes for the officials to douse the fire. Initial reports suggest the cause of fire was a short circuit.

Dr Parmar had bought the new Maruti Celerio diesel car five to six months ago. He was amongst the first owners of the new Maruti Celerio diesel in Navsari. Powered by a newly built 793 cc twin cylinder diesel engine, price of Celerio diesel ranges from INR 4.65 lakh to INR 5.71 lakh.

Maruti Celerio is the newest small car from India’s leading car manufacturer. Launched a the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, it was India’s first car to feature an AMT gearbox. Earlier this year in June, it became India’s first car to be powered by a twin cylinder diesel engine.
