He seemed very relaxed the moment he spotted fire as he was still sitting on his bike instead of getting down and doing something!

I'm not able to make out what caused the fire.
What is happening. How can someone be so relaxed when their bike is on fire! He nearly spent 30 seconds on the bike AFTER it caught fire. This is confusing indeed.

Thanks to Raj Chhina for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Ford Endeavour fire

Quote:
Family of a senior doctor living in Shakti Vihar Colony had a narrow escape as his Ford Endeavour parked in the porch of his house caught fire. The heat was so intense that windowpanes on the ground floor were damaged.

Dr Raju Singh Chhina, Dean Academics and Medical Superintendent, DMCH, said yesterday, he and his wife returned home from the market and parked their SUV in the porch around 8.30 pm. “An hour later, the car’s engine started emanating smoke and in no time, it caught fire. The fire was so intense that several windowpanes on the ground floor were damaged.

“The families of mine and my brother had to go to the third floor. We could not get down for an hour till the fire was extinguished. Our neighbours tried to douse the flames by pouring sand and water over the burning engine, but in vain,” said Dr Chhina.
The fire brigade reached on time and they doused the flames in a short time. Had the fire brigade not controlled the fire in time, it could have spread on to the house,” he said.

Dr Chhina suspected that engine malfunction could be the cause of the fire. Though he had got the vehicle insured, he would consult his lawyer whether to sue the Ford company for selling a defective vehicle, he said.

“It’s not about the money I spent on this expensive vehicle. It’s about the risk that me and my family members were put in. We all family members could have been killed, had the fire spread on to our house. The SUV’s engine had remained shut for an hour, still it caught fire,” said the doctor.

He had bought the SUV last year. An Audi Q5 of his brother parked next to the Endeavour was also damaged.

Re: Pics: Accidents in India

Read the news in daily news paper. The car was engulfed in flames while driving in Bidar district, Karnataka. Family of four were travelling, father and their 2 kids were out safely while kids' mother was stuck in the car and was burnt to ashes. According to the Police report, the father mentioned that since it was cold, he put on heater which resulted in flames . Car looks like TS registered Hyundai Santro.

Happy that there were no casualties. Is there any reason why many Endeavours catch fire? Just a question, not meant to offend Endeavour owners.

Here’s a video of one such fire - looks like a diesel runaway, in a new 7000 km run Ranger (same platform as the Endy)

However this has even happened to stopped and switched off cars so probably electrical shorts maybe from poorly installed aux lights etc?

Has the reason for the fire been established? Would be good to know.

As per the article, the car was regularly serviced so what could have led to such an unfortunate event?

According to him the investigation is still ongoing. I will check back with him after a few days when Tata / Insurance company investigators are done with their work.

Here's another video, in which the youtuber discusses three fire accidents of Endy, one in Australia and two in India. Fire in Endy seems to be a major problem worldwide.

Ok, so on the one hand this guy talks about fire in vehicles and on the other hand promotes his website where he sells after-market reflectors and lights for the cars which need to be installed by tempering the wiring and electrical system of the car. And tempering with electrical system is one of the major cause in most of the car fire cases.

Ironically any Tom Dick and Harry is self proclaimed expert these days in the era of YouTube and social media with huge fan followng.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

Saw a video of this car in flames at Khammam apparently. No further details on the Facebook page.
It just states that the fire was due to a technical issue.
Does anyone have more info on this?
