Almost went down in flames, Scorpio

Saw a Scorpio catch fire, thanks to a guy carrying water on push cart and some security from a building who brought out the fire extinguisher, the fire was contained just to the dash. First the garden hose and buckets of water was used, but didnt budge, finally the fire extinguisher worked.

Happened today at around 12 noon in HSR layout right in front of Sireesh Auto (Mahindra dealer) body shop, no the car was not from the garage, it was passing by.

Seemed like an electrical shorting, by the time the owner could call the garage guys fire was doused, then the vehicle was pushed to the garage.

Have a feeling the wiring near the dash is the culprit and the padding inside dash a fire hazard. If so hope M&M sorted this in the newer models atleast.

Harry, was this at a Scorpio stockyard?!

I'm going crazy worrying about my Scorpio going up in flames; what with this economic downturn & all that, I'll never be able to get a new one!

I doubt if Scorpio's are prone to burning (remember this issue with the initial set of Cielo's, they were burning all over the country!). Of the number of Scorpio's that are out there, this is a small (very small) percentage.

And in my once-a-while (quarterly) visit to the MM showroom / repair shop at Trichy, I have not yet seen a burnt out one; direct hits and rolls were the most, but none burnt.

I doubt the accessories fitting, probably the ICE. Possible that the Scorpio does have a weak spot, which goes beyond the breaking point when loaded.

Accidents : Vehicles catching fire

This happened right outside "TATA"/Landrover/Jaguar/Ceejay House about an hour ago.

The Indigo was on fire for more than 20mins and was prevented from blowing up only because the Ceejay house fire fighting equipment was available. Chance of a fire brigade reaching the spot..NIL

The traffic on both sides was obviously at a standstill and at its peak since it was peak office hour.

With the increasing number of such incidents happening and at such a high frequency i would surly not buy a TATA car or even travel in one

Oh!!! Cool buddy, we don't know several things here, like...
- Is this a brand new car just out from the showroom or a customer's car
- From the revolving lamp on the head, we could assume its been sold out, however, we don't know if the electricals have been modified & who has been carried out
- We don't know what sorts of other modification work that has been carried out
- We don't know if the service intervals were carried out properly

So there're lots of unknown areas before we speak to the owner & get a concrete information. Trust me, I'm not a fan of Tata cars either, but I still wouldn't like to jump into this conclusion as Tata cars & fire go along together.

First the tata nanos, then this!

but frankly, the tatas can be blamed for the nano incidents but not this. this is a government car & god knows how well it has been taken care of. has this car ever been to any TATA A.S.S? has it been through all the services?

if it was taken to a local garage for some issue, then maybe the owner is to be blamed.

if it all it was taken to the A.S.S only, then tatas are to be spanked. this will only add to tata's bad reputation.

We have seen almost all brands being burned on this forum. It doesnt surprise me if another one burns. Aftermarket cheap electrical work is the most common cause for this. In this case it could be the beacon wiring.

Even I get a feeling that this might be a result of some other shoddy repair-work done by unauthorized roadside garages. This is a first time I'm hearing a Indigo going up in flames. However its hard to speculate without all the facts in hand. I think we'll be harsh if we put the entire blame on TATA.

More than that, the red light on such a 'sasti' car suggests that the owner is some 'power-mad' kind of person so additional installation of a high wattage music system or any other fancy gadgets cant be ruled out.

So Tata's cant be blamed for this. In fact this owner should be penalised for creating a public hazard and a nuisance on the road.
