Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

There was an indica burnt near Lowry Institutions at KR Puram, Bangalore today at 15:30 hrs. This has caused a huge pileup at KR Puram. When I crossed this, there was a fire engine waiting at the side of the road and the flames were already put out. Do not know if there were any casualities.

Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

From today's Malayala Manorama newspaper : A Bolero Invader caught fire in Idukki, Kerala, leading to the sole occupant (the owner-driver) being burnt to death. One reason reported for the fire, is him having a can of diesel in the rear, which could've caught fire. But where did the fire start from or how ?

Thanks to Surya Kiran for sharing via this Team-BHP page!

One of my close family friends was a proud owner of the Vitara Brezza ZDI+. In June 2017, the car caught fire in his garage in Pune and got completely burnt. The eye witness of the incident saw the fire originating from the car and spreading to other items which include some valuables, a computer and a two wheeler kept in the same garage. Thanks to the fire fighters who managed to confine the fire within the garage. Seeing the picture you can imagine the extent of the fire. There was no electrical short circuit or any inflammable item inside the garage. The most likely cause of fire as per me and my friend is a technical fault in the car as he was staying inside a very restricted area without any trespassers. Similar kind of fire has occurred in a Vitara Brezza ZDI+ model in March 2017 in Ajmer.

The response from Maruti was very poor wherein the technical team came to investigate the fire after 13 days and without any instrument or sample collection named it as "external fire". Similar kind of answers were given in the Ajmer fire case too. He has appealed the same in the Consumer Court and hopes to get justice.

Re: Pics: Accidents in India

Saw this car burning on Bangalore Airport road (towards airport). No casualty visible and no injured occupants too visible. I am guessing it had happened barely 20 mins after I had passed in that direction. I did see multiple ambulances either rushing towards the accident site or going towards Hebbal as I continued driving.

This water-logged Swift that was parked (awaiting repair) suddenly caught fire (no idea how) on 25/8 Onam day near my home.

The firemen arrived quickly, but most of it was burned.

The Alto parked alongside got burnt on the left side.Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India-imageuploadedbyteambhp1535478642.307216.jpg

Re: Pics: Accidents in India

A black sports car (think it was a Porsche GT3) was on fire on Peddar Road this morning. Was doing my usual Sunday morning run and had to cross over to the South Bound Lane to avoid it. No pics for the same reason. Was a little scary - you keep imagining the car may blow up as you are passing it. What was irritating was that the North Bound cars were insistent on going past the car and ended up blocking the fire engine. Hope no one was hurt.

Any idea of what the cause of the fire was ? Was it parked or running when caught fire ?

Parked Renault Duster caught fire (total loss)

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this post. We bought a Renault Duster in January 2017. It was supposed to replace our Scorpio, which was about 9 years old by then (Later we decided not to sell the Scorpio). We chose the top-end diesel RXZ model, with the 85 bhp engine. The car was good, had enough creature comforts for it's class, and importantly, returned good mileage figures. When I could, I personally took care of the car and ensured that it was always well maintained, properly and regularly serviced. We never gave the car for service anywhere else than in the authorised service centre of Renault. The car served us well for the past two years, without any major problems. Although I am in Dubai since June, and last drove the car (or any vehicle for that matter) sometime around then, I used to enquire about the cars whenever I called home. I even had plans to post a long term review of Duster in team bhp, when I reach back home. Here ends the good part of the story.

All of this came to an abrupt and disheartening end on 25 September 2018. The car, which was serviced only two weeks before, was parked inside our compound, in an extension to our actual car porch. Since the Scorpio was used only occasionally, it occupied the inner porch. The duster was parked there since morning. By about 11:30 pm, one of our neighbours saw flames erupting from the car. They quickly informed the fire force, and also called my father, who was asleep by then. My father moved the Scorpio backwards, away from the burning car, and managed to put out the fire on our house's window panes, with our neighbour's help. But there was nothing they could do about the car. Before the fire force came and put out the fire, the whole car burned down completely. The Scorpio's headlights and front cladding melted, our house's front windows were damaged, and the whole car porch was painted in soot. Above all, I lost a dear friend, who was my companion for the last two years, wherever I went.

I came to know of the incident yesterday morning. I was in a state of shock. I mustered up enough strength to write this post due to two reasons. I want the members of this great forum to share their views on the reasons for what happened, and the best further course of action. I also want Renault India to take notice of this incident. I have already sent an email to them. I thank God that no one in my family and neighbourhood suffered any injury due to the fire. Much worse could have happened. The car's odometer was around 18000 kilometres when the incident happened. The car does have a bumper to bumper insurance.

Best regards
Vishid

Hi Vishid,

Really feel sorry for your loss. Good that your family is safe and more importantly kudos to your father who saved the house and the other car from getting seriously damaged.

Any idea about the source of the fire? Could it be arson or electrical short circuit? Has the Insurance co been communicated regarding the incident? I feel a FIR in this case would also be better, I leave it to experts to debate on this.

Sorry to hear about the incident and glad that no one is hurt.
Is there any accessories added to the car? Be it from the A.S.S or outside. I could see from one of your post that the car met with an accident recently, could you share some more details and snaps on the same?

My Goodness! What a tragedy!

A parked car that just caught fire out of the blue? Do you have any further information? Like anything that was left running or any modifications done?

I think a proper investigation will reveal the cause. If it turns out to be an out and out manufacturing defect, we can flag it to Renault through our forum or through any other means.
