re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

5 Months.

So we are in the same boat filled with nappies and a lot of smilies.

The car seat I currently use needs only the lap belt. It does not use the chest part of the belt and comes with a metal clip to connect the chest and lap parts of the seat belt.

Its best to be placed in the middle of the rear seat. With the lap belt of the middle passenger.

But I have a 4 seater wagon R.
The old model with split seats in the rear.
Earlier I used to place her in the rear left seat.

But now moved her to the front seat. (No Air Bags)
That allows her to see mummy who sits in the rear seat.

I can also keep an eye on her.

This seat is a infant seat. It can be used till she is 66 cms in height. So its for for another month or two.

To begin with, I would recommend the middle of the rear seat. The child is safer there provided she is belted up and also does not feel left out of conversations.
If this is not possible due to lack of proper fixtures/ top tether or if the child is happier in the window seat, it would be better to use the left rear seat. At all times, ensure the child seat is fixed properly and cannot move.

Please keep enough entertainment (picture books, toys, favourite toy/ cloth, etc) and water handy for the child. As far as possible I try to avoid TV screens and word books. Eyes are affected while reading in a moving vehicle and IMHO watching excessive TV while travelling impacts sleeping patterns and induces crankiness.

Hi

People with experience...what would you recommend...

Chicco Eletta

or Evenflo Titan Elite Convertible (Mom and Me)

Both are initially reverse facing and later front facing (upto 18 kgs)

Also checked mothercare but evenflo was more padded and secured than their seville range....though costly at 9k (i am getting 1k copons with it)

They also have a britax which retails for around 7k.....dont remember model and the website of shoppers stop is not showing it.

Need to fit it in swift....

Re: Child Safety, and SAFE driving on Indian Roads

Great news for all Dad's who want to pick up Car Seats for their children.
I went to Mothercare at Inorobit mall Pune today.
Though i already have a car seat for our child.
I wanted to pick up a booster seat.
It's much more smaller and suitable for older children.
Mothercare has two models.
One priced around 1,200 and the other around 1,600.
The 1,600 one was not on display. and hence was shown only the 1,200 one.
It was decent enough and so i asked for one in Pink.
Unfortunately a fresh one was not available in Pink.
and so out came the 1,600 one in Pink.
I saw it an immediately liked it. As it had higher arm rests too.
The sales people were very honest and were quick to point out that there was a very small hardly noticeable stain on it. Something which can be easily washed or dry cleaned out.
and they offered it to me at a very special price.
can you guess what it was?
believe it or not....
Rs. 597 only.
and we got an additional 5% off being first citizen gold card holders
Anyways lapped it up, without much thought.

Now here comes the good part for you dear fathers.
Mothercare is offering some juicy discounts on their car seats too.
There were some on 40% discount while others were at 20%.
I was even offered a rather good one in pink for only Rs.2800/-
Yes dear father, for only Rs.2,800/-

So what are you waiting for? rush to your nearest Mothercare for similar deals.
Good luck & Drive Safe!

re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

Thanks mdsaab.

I have just encashed my Credit Card points for Shoppers Stop gift vouchers. Planning to get my princess a new child seat.

I have one doubt.
She has almost outgrown the infant car seat. She is now around 66 cms long and that is the current seat's limit.
The new seat I get for her will be forward facing. I am planning on something that can be used till she is 11 years old.
Now as she is not yet able to sit up on her own, will she be comfortable in the forward facing seat.

The best thing about the car seat. My travel loving kid sees the car seat, smiles. Strap her in and she is beaming as she knows we are going out.

I can try to help here.

The one which you can use until 11 years are normally toddler seats (1 year to 9/11 years).

66 cms means she is not yet ready for the toddler seat. Better option will be to go for a combination seat which can be used as rear-facing now and forward facing later. This can be used until 3-4 years, and then you can change to the one which can go until 11 years. Slightly expensive setup, but better for the princess

Check the Mothercare global website for options. Here is the link: Car Seats | Infant Car Seats, Booster Seats & Baby Carriers | Mothercare

re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

I was thinking of buying a seat that is for groups 1, 2 and 3.

Child Car Seats : Types of Child Seats

Since she reaches the group 1 in less than 2 months.

Why don't you opt for a convertible type seat.
You can use this both rearward as well as forward facing. First try it out forward facing. But if you feel that your princess is not ready for it yet. You can use it rearward facing untill such a time when she is ready to use if forward facing.
I picked a convertable type one up for our daughter. That too was from Mothercare. No discounts at the time. Set us back by Rs. 6,995/-
Used it when she was an infant. And she can still sit in it till date. The reason for getting thr booster seat is that it's easier to switch between cars. And my daughter was getting bored of her original seat and wanted something new. So into the car it came.
Here are a few snaps of the one i picked up yesterday.

And yes it only cost us rs. 597/- less another 5%.

Good idea, I think that will see you through until she is 4 years old. After that you can get some booster seat or cushions like what Mdsaab just bought.

Glad to see prices coming down. I purchased a child seat at Inorbit Shoppers Stop for Rs 7000 just a couple of months back.

Since she is 66 cm now, I don't think she has crossed 13 KG in weight. It is always better to put her in rear facing seat. Use a combination (rear upto 13 KG and then forward).

I am currently using 1 for my daughter. She is now 11 KG and 70 CM approx.

re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

Bought this model but different color. ShoppersStop.com - Mothercare Sport Car Seat - Red

After discounts the price was something like 4800 or so.

I will take a picture later. Has not yet been used although I got the salesguys to install it.

It currently installed rear facing. I will make it forward facing once princess's weight crosses 10 kgs.
