Why don't you do:

Day 1: Pune - Udaipur
Day 2: Udaipur - Gurgaon/Delhi
Day 3: NCR - Amritsar

Jaipur - Delhi is a massive mess because of the trucks; the 14hr drive on first day won't tire you as much as the 10 hr drive on the third.

We had taken the Pune - Baroda - A'bad - Udaipur - Ajmer - Delhi some years back. Delhi - Amritsar through Panipat - Ludhiana - Jalandhar.

Thanks for the reply,:thumbs up This route would be very long, Plus the issue is that I can only leave Pune after 3-4PM and this leaves me with a driving window of around 7 hours only hence Ankleshwar on Day 1, Since I don't have many days in hand hence looking for the most efficient route.

Thanks,
Ajit

How about this:

Day 1: Pune - Baroda
Day 2: Baroda - Ajmer/Jaipur
Day 3: to Amritsar

Problem with driving 7 hours only on day 1 is: you'll spend 3 hours just doing Pune - Mumbai.

Bypass Ajmer by taking the Chittorgarh route from Udaipur. That will save quite some time.

You can also investigate the NH3 (Old highway) from Pune to Agra. Then take Yamuna expressway to Delhi.

Just check the Indore-Jaipur route, during rains it may be hell. I prefer the route via Agra.

What happens during rain ?

Two weeks back, I did Delhi - Jaipur - Kishangarh - Bhilwara - Chittorgarh- Nimbahera - Ujjain - Indore.
1. Good roads all through.
2. Indore - Pune traffic is lot less compared to Pune - Mumbai- Surat route.

The Indore Jaipur route is used mostly by trucks, who want to avoid entering UP, so they create large potholes during rains.

NH3 runs through Chambal ravines, so night drive is risky - it is strictly a day drive through Chambal for lone cars.

What if I take the following route

1. Bangalore - Kolhapur - Shirdi - Ratlam - Sirsa - Amritsar

2. Amritsar - Haridwar - Dehradun - Ajmer - Ratlam - Kolhapur - Bangalore

I think the best option would be to take teh Bombay/Ahmedabad route.

Bangalore-Bombay-AMD-Ratangad-Hanumangad-Amritsar.

Am planning a Pune to McLeod Ganj via Ludhiana trip next week. Would be grateful for route advice on Kishangarh to Ludhiana sector.

route advice on Kishangarh to Ludhiana sector
I had planned on this route this week but at the last moment had to go via Air, based on inputs from multiple sources, you can definitely use this route. Kishangarh- Hissar is mostly 4 laned with sparse traffic, from Hissar, it should be a mix of 4/ 2 laned but good and wide roads.

Kishangarh - Jaipur - Rewari - Jhajjar - Rohtak - Panipat - Karnal - kurukshetra - Ambala - Ludhiana

Minimum 4 lanes throughout.

Expect Jhajjar all are major cities.

Very less traffic between Rewari and Panipat.

Lots of dhaba, restaurants & hotels between Panipat and Ludhiana.

I just did hissar Ahmedabad via hissar - sadulpur - churu - sikar - kishangarh - ajmer - beawar - abu road - Ahmedabad. Excellent roads throughout with a few patches in between. Perfectly doable. definitely recommended.

Need inputs and guidance on travelling from Udaipur to Amritsar next month. Should I take
  1. Jaipur - Gurgaon (western express highway) - Panipat - Ambala - Ludhiana - Jalandar - Amritsar route or
  2. Kisangarh - JAipur - Sikar - Hisar - Bathinda - Amritsar
I will be travelling with family including 2 kids. How are the road conditions? Any suggestions on good restaurants for food and bio-breaks?

Kishangarh- Makrana- Sardarshar- Hanumangarh- Bhatinda- Faridkot- Amritsar

or

Kishangarh- Makrana- Churu-Hissar- Bhatinda- Faridkot- Amritsar

You can’t do this in one day with family so depending on the time you start from Udaipur, plan night stay in any of the big towns on the way.
