Bangalore to Thirukadaiyur : Route Queries

Greetings,

What would be the best route to Thirukadaiyur from Bangalore ? I am looking at the following options.

1. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Thiruvannamalai - Tindivanam - Pondy - Cuddalore - Sirkazhi - Thirukadaiyur

2. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Salem - Namakkal - Musiri - Trichy - Thanjavur - Kumbakonam - Mayavaram - Thirukadaiyur

3. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Salem - Attur - Vriddachalam - Sethiathoppe - Chidambaram - Sirkazhi - Thirukadaiyur

#1, I will have to endure the infamous Krishnagiru - Thiruvannamalai stretch
#2, I suspect is a lot longer
#3, I have no ideas about the road conditions.

Chandras1,

Route #1 will be shorter than Route #2. Roads will be generally good till Cuddalore except Krishnagiri-TVMalai stretch. Don't have any latest update on Cuddalore - Sirkazhi - Thirukadaiyur

Route #2 - will be longer by 30 kms but the roads are good till Kumbakonam. Not sure about Kumbokonam-Mayavaram-Thirukadayur stretch.

Route #3 - sorry, no updates.

Considering the good road conditions, I would prefer the following route:

Bangalore-Namakkal-Thottiyam-Musiri-Trichy-Kallanai-Thiruvaiyaru-Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai-Thirukadaiyur [473 km according to Google maps]

Namakkal-Thottiyam-Musiri stretch has a small bad stretch of less than a km between Thottiyam and Musiri with the remaining stretches are either patched up or resurfaced. After entering into Trichy bypass, turn to left [SH 22] that goes to Kallanai, and then, to Kumbakonam via Thiruvaiyaru. This is a twisty, but, good road. I don't know the condition of the remaining stretch.

Your best option is #2 (Trichy/Tanjore), as the roads would best.
- 4L Namakkal
- Decent road Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy
- 4L Trichy-Tanjore
- Good 2L road from Tanjore - Kumbakonam (NH45C) and Kumbakonam-Mayavaram (SH)

Still lot work was happening on NH68. So, that whole stretch till Vridhachalam/Ulundurpet would be very slow.

Best bet I would say is via Pondycherry.

Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Arcot-Cheyyar-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondy-Chidambaram.

This would be much more hassle free (but for the last stretch and crossing Pondy).

I have done the Bangalore to Thirukadaiyur, via Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Thiruvannamalai - Panruti - Cuddalore -Mayiladuthurai - Thirukadaiyur and also Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Salem - Namakkal - Musiri - Trichy - Thanjavur - Kumbakonam - Mayavaram - Thirukadaiyur, last year.

The first one has a very bad stretch between Krishnagiri to Tiruvanamalai and also need not go to Pondy.

The second one has good roads, but for some small bad patches.

Bangalore to Thirukadaiyur, via Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Thiruvannamalai - Panruti - Cuddalore -Mayiladuthurai - Thirukadaiyur - Starting at 5 AM have reached Thirukadiyur at 2 PM after spending 45 minutes at Tiruvannamalai Temple, 30 minutes at Cuddalore for breakfast and 45 minutes at Chidambaram temple.

Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Salem - Namakkal - Musiri - Trichy - Thanjavur - Kumbakonam - Mayavaram - Thirukadaiyur, not sure of the time taken, as I spent time at temples along the way. But Bangalore - Trichy and to Thanjavur can be done in 7 hours max.

We take the best of the above two and have an even better route.

Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Arcot-Cheyyar-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Vikravandi-Panruti-Cuddalore-Chindambaram.
This way we avoid Pondycherry as well.

How is Vikravandi-Panruti and Panruti-Cuddalore ? Other than avoiding Pondy, it'll avoid Pondy-Cuddalore traffic as well.

Not sure, have not done that route

You may not be required to go to Mayiladuthurai, there is road from Vaideswaran Koil, which will save you a lot of time, check with the locals.

@Rajesh, What is the context here? I did not follow this.

Folks, the shortest route to Chidambaram is through Tiruvanamalai. Going through Salem is quite a long detour.

However the first stretch from Krishnagiri to Thiruvanamalai is very bad to say the least.

So here's the option: Instead of taking a right on the GQ towards Thiruvanamalai proceed straight on the GQ till Bargur. Get into Bargur town and then proceed towards Tirupattur town.

At Tirupattur town take a right towards Singarapettai. You actually rejoin the Krishnagiri - Tiruvanamalai road here. From there on its towards Chengam and Tiruvanamalai.

This is also a detour but not as long as the Salem or Trichy ones to get to Chidambaram/Pondicherri.

Any recent updates on Tiruvannamalai-Thirukkoyilur?

The difference is in the two routes 90km. But I think its still worth it.
Here I am referring about the route via Arcot and not Trichy/Salem.

Mayiladuthurai is after the Vaitheswaran Koil, the town/village is known by the temple name and has a deviation to Thirukadiyur, though a single lane town road, pretty good the last time I used it, hope I have made myself clear.

Yes I am aware of it. For Thirukadaiyur one needs to go on the Tranquebarar (Tarangambadi) road ie 45A from Sirkazhi.
But for Mayavaram, at Sirkazhi, there is a route via Vaithesharwan Koil. Yes its a narrow road, but very nice to take and its green.
