NH7 to NH4 bypass is straight forward. Use NICE road. Within no time, you would have switched one GQ to another!

It is posible if driven during day. Bangalore - Chitradurga can be comfortably done in 2.30hours in Linea and another four hours from there irrespective of which road you take - NH 13 or via Challakere

re: Cochin - Hampi : Route Queries

1. Hiriyur-Bellari-Hospet
OR
2. Hiriyur-Chellekare-(NH 13) - Gunda road- Hospet?

I think 2 is shorter and better roads. Correct?

re: Cochin - Hampi : Route Queries

Another option which is available from Blore is via NH7 upto Ananthpur, Gooty, Bellary and Hospet, considering the road Chitradurga to Hospet is most of times bad with heavy mining trucks plying, and roads are not maintained particular with low clearance it could be bad for your vehicle. Anyways it is a calculated risk one has to take at the end of the day good luck.

Gooty-Bellary-Hospet nh63 is perennially bad, thanks to the mining trucks, dont think of doing it via nh7.

You can try Hospet-Bellary BP-Hiriyur-Bangalore route while returning. Bellary-Hiriyur stretch is better than the Hospet-Chitradurga. You can cover Badami and Banashankari in addition to Hampi, Pattadakal and Aihole, if time and kids permit. Have a nice time, Sunney.

For return, use the Perundurai-Kangeyam-Palladam.Pollachi-Wadakancherry option instead of CBE by-pass.
That may provide you good respite.

Correction:It is Vadakkencheri and not Wadakancherry.

Wadakancherry comes in between Shoranur & Thrissur while Vadakkencheri is on NH47.

Just a difference of an "A" and an "E"

Indeed very complicated !

Easy for me because my father's ancestral place is Vadakkencheri-Palakkad and mother's ancestral place is Wadakancherry-Thrissur.

If you noticed, GoogleMaps spell the names like this:
Vadakkencherry (Palakkad one) and Wadakanchery (Thrissur one)

Now, to remember which is which, first consider only "V-W" and "E-A" differences in the name. For "V-W", V comes before W and so do Palakkad before Thrissur going by the popular NH-47/Walayar route to Kerala.
Now, for "E-A", assign "E" to "Early" and "A" to "Away" from Kerala border.

The next part of name difference would be remembering "KK" and "RR" in the Palakkad one (and only that one) and I do remember that by thinking Palakkad has "KK" in the name and so do the town in that district.

Now, even if you forget which place is which, you may not forget reading this post

And do you know how it is different in malayalam? Can someone volunteer to explain how it is?

re: Cochin - Hampi : Route Queries

Thanks friends....
B,ack home completing Cochin-Salem-NICE-NH4- Chitradurga(halt) --17th June
18th Morning- Chithradurga- Hospet- Hampi(by noon). Left Hampi by 7 pm towards Aihole-Pattada Kallu-Badami-Gadag-Chitradurga-NICE- Salem-Cbe-Cochin.

My comment on Hampi: Classic example how a world herritage can be horribly maintained ! In fact the dirt and odour at the Temple premises (an open air Latrin!)compelled kids to leave the place. All we Indians are to be ashamed of this indifference of the authorities-concerned and must question this criminal attitude towards the famous capital of Vijayanagara emperors.
How people from abroad stand this ??
I was crest-fallen in front of kids: I only boasted and made them visit 'boring' historical sites as vacation tour, instead of their favorite hill stations ! They: “We said so !”

Couldnt reach Aihole same night: Road from Humpi towards was a nightmare due to road construction and B2B trucks, dust....
Had to stop and stay at 'available lodge', some Hotel Sri Ramkrishna at Ilkal, well no good.

Early morning pushed off to Aihole, reached about 7.30.
Aihole and Hampi are pole apart on maintained beauty. By noon pushed of to Pattadakkallu: Great experience.
By 3 pm pushed off to Badami: Again claps to Dad from kids. I become loved by all for ‘pushing’ them to ‘boring places’.
By evening finished and returned, through Gadag to Chitradurga halt. Morning left, reached home by 10 pm.

Thumps Up to Linea MJD !!

She is rock-built and programmed-to-precision maneuver at all roads.
At GQ she is as the real ‘breeze’, the ‘honeymoon bride’ !
At potholed areas, she is the ‘all suffering –absorbing’ Mother !

A photologue will follow.
