Motorbike Expedition to Seven North Eastern States

Hi All,
Some of my Motorbike enthusiast friends are planning an expedition covering the Seven NE States. The tentative schedule is as follows:
· Dates: Nov - Dec 2011.
· States Covered: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya. Manipur. Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura
· Route: Mumbai-Guwahati-Mumbai by Air.
· Guwahati-Bomdilla-Tawang-Kaziranga-Kohima-Imphal-Silchar-Aizwal-Manu-Agartala-Karimganz-Shillong-Guwahati by Motorcycle
Total distance around 2755 Kms.
Request the forum members to please provideinformation regarding route, climate, other details , if available.

I am planning to travel down for the Hornbill festival in Nagaland - Dec-1st week. Also planning to cover Kaziranga by road.
Tentative Plan:
Bangalore->Kolkata->Dimapur (by air)
Dimapur to Kaziranga by road
To nearest airport and then by air to Bangalore.

Any thoughts/ useful tips on the above appreciated.

Some more questions around that region (Nagaland/ Kaziranga)
1. I believe you require permits for certain areas in the NE states. Where do we get that information from?
2. Also, any instructions on general safety / travel by road / areas to avoid ?
