Re: Gods Own Country to Kashmir

I would prefer the Scorpio.
The onward route you are planning can be bad north of Biaora thanks to the rains. 2-laned roads, pot holes, traffic jams, etc.
Hotel facilities are poor on NH3, but you can try Hotel Varun in Guna, MPTDC in Shivpuri, MPTDC Tansen inside Gwalior in the central India sector.
In Haryana, you can try HR Tourism hotels in Hodal (Dab chik) or the ones at Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra and Ambala.
In JK, there are JKTDC hotels at Patnitop, Batote on the way to Srinagar.
20 days is enough or not - depends on what is your daily drive schedule and places where you propose to halt for sightseeing.
Amarnath Yatra traffic is very high on Jammmu-Srinagar highway.
The Central India route is going to be boring, but you can spice it up by stopping over at Gwalior (Fort), Agra (Taj).
The West India has lots of interesting places - Jaipur, Chittorgarh & Udaipur.

Re: Gods Own Country to Kashmir

1. Carry 2 or 3 mobiles - with different SIM cards, at least one from BSNL, another a CDMA one. Coverage can be carrier dependent.

2. Have hvk's number on all of them. ;-D (just joking)

But honestly, one can just use the browser or most phones and post / read tbhp while on the go.

Who else is accompanying you?

Valapad is near Guruvayoor, on NH 17, right? Or are you within Trichur town?

All these fancy mobile service providers fail at high altitudes of hills of HIMACHAL,UTTARANCHAL,KASHMIR etc but our humble and simple BSNL will have full SIGNAL power all times.BSNL sim is a MUST.

So basically you are taking NH7 all the way while going (Total of 3400 Kms as per Google Maps).

Please remember there are hardly any good places to stop from Nagpur to Bhopal and the road isn't safe at night. Even if i take an average of 900Kms per day you would take approximately 4 days to reach Srinagar, i have not included bad patches while travelling through MP and narrow roads in hilly areas of Himanchal and beyond.

Considering this my guess would be it would take more than 4 days and not less unless you have multiple drivers and can take turns while at wheel.

Also this does not include any sight seeing in between you might have to factor that as well.

Cant comment on return journey as i have never traveled on that route (Others can confirm and it might be safer at night and better)

The route mentioned for return journey is safe for night traffic.

Edit: Scorpio is a proven vehicle for any terrain by HVK

Re: Gods Own Country to Kashmir

But honestly, I am not sure that the destinations are worth the long journey. After such a long travel, you really do not want to end up as a face in the crowd. At least, not me.

I suggest you ask the mods to retitle the thread and ask for better locations in the North.
