What's a good time to go to Vaishnodevi Katra temple in March (to beat the crowd)? We're planning a trip from Delhi around the Holi holiday, am wondering if thats a bad idea from crowd standpoint.
Any tips appreciated. Will be traveling by train from Delhi. Likely a day train one-way (probably Vande Bharat from Delhi to Katra, arriving Katra 2 pm) and an overnight train on the return (dep Katra at/after 7 pm).
Also, any guide/pointers as to stay, modes & booking of hill climb, etc would help.
And how's the cold there in early March?

Cold and Katra isn't always together. We have been in July(2022) as well as December (couple of years back) and it isn't Kashmir style cold at all. Any age people can enjoy the climate. Katra is in Jammu and Jammu doesn't freeze.
Even with heavy crowd, the darshan will always be smooth sailing and easy.
If you want to plan in 1 day, you have arrive at morning by Sampark Kranti and leave in same train at night .
If you are coming by VB, you need to take the helicopter, finish the Darshan and fly again.
March should see very less chopper cancellation.
Mata vaishnavo devi website gives all details about chopper booking, dormitories etc.
Dorms are just to freshen up and nothing more.
The entry road to the steps has several decent hotels and good food options like Rathnasagar etc..
If you are looking for Horse/Pony, take the steps and after 10 mins of climb, there is pony stand where you can find a pony to take up hill. 2500₹ plus Happiness amount which they demand along with their food.
If you are planning to walk there is a midway place called Artha kuvari (spelling and pronunciation might differ), from here you'll Electric drop off vehicles (M&M Supro) for a price.
Both up and down hill walk will leave totally exhausted.
The ways to go uphill are chopper, pony, palanquin and steps. There is pram facility for kids. 800-1000₹ per pram.
Let me know if you need more info.
Hi,
I want to know if I can complete the Vaishno Devi yatra on the same day. My plan is to take the train(Uttar Sampark Kranti) from Delhi that reaches Katra around 8 am. I intend to climb on the new Tarakote marg. Taking the helicopter is not an option. Is it possible to complete the yatra and catch the train(Shri Shakti) at 11 pm from Katra on the same day?
