Pune-BLR Solo Ride

Hello folks,
Am planning to head from Pune to Bangalore in the first week of September on my Roadking. No Iron-Butt business, just a slow ride via Goa, Honnavar and Shimoga. Choosing between NH4 and NH17 I'm biased toward the relatively quieter, slower, scenic and less traffic-populated (am I right?) NH17. Now I'm a bit unsure of which route to the NH17 would offer me more of the above. I was thinking:

1) Pune - Tamhini Ghat - SH 97 - Mangaon
2) Pune - NH4 - Panchgani - Mahabaleshwar - NH17

Any other suggestions? I'd probably cover just about 350-400km a day. Am not on any time-bound schedule, so longer routes dont matter if they're more peaceful. Except that I will need to get to decent accomodation by nightfall.

Go for the route 2, via Panchgani because:

1> Road conditions are good
2> Sight seeings are more on this patch like: Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar, Pratapgad etc.
3> Tamhini Ghat route is comparatively less secured
4> Tamhini Ghat route do not have much facilities on the route as compared to the other.

Wow, that was quick, thanks! By facilities, i'm hoping you mean petrol bunks? Also, would Ratnagiri (or somewhere close by) have decent accomodation for a night?

Just a quick update ->

Its Ganesh festival from 1 to 10 Sept. This is a major festival for people in konkan area, they travel home towns from Mumbai. The roads are congested, especially the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

so dont expect quieter, slower, less-traffic road.

Have decided to take the Tamhini ghat anyway. Will be stopping over at Ratnagiri, Goa, Gokarna (or honnavara), then straight home to Bengaluru!!
