Not at all! This was precisely the route I took on my way back from Horanadu to Bangalore last Sunday, and but for the breathtaking views on this route, the travel was out-and-out torture. From Horanadu to Kalasa, things are really bad; however the distance is only 10 km. And from there till Kottigehara, roads are in ruins with only brief intermissions of newly laid smooth surfaces. Potholes abound everywhere! Without doubt, doing that distance in such conditions is far from pleasant for most folks. Conditions are acceptable from Kottigehara onwards, but after the driving ordeal so far, one would be thin on patience. At the end of it all, the journey seems exceedingly long and tiresome.

Technically, any road you take to Horanadu, you will just be bypassing Kalasa. This is because all the roads leading to Horanadu are offshoots of the roads going to Kalasa.

An exception would be the road from Horanadu-Basarikatte-Jayapura, which goes due north, while Kalasa is due south of Horanadu.

Can someone please let me know the possible stay options in Sringeri and Balehonnur please. I'm planning a bullet ride covering major ghats and would need to halt in Sringeri in one direction and Balehonnur on the other. Basic accommodation is just fine.

Sringeri is a better place to stay overnight than Balehonnur. In Sringeri there are many many basic hotels that you could stay. Most of them are clean and hygenic.

The couple who run this place are very very courteous and affectionate. Rooms are very basic but clean and hygenic. I would highly recommend this place.

c is in good condition all the way from CKM to Balehonnur

Hi, I'm also planning to visit Kalasa/Horanadu & Sringeri this week end. Now after going thru' the thread, I think I feel it's better to drop Horanadu. To Sringeri other route I like to take is CKM/Balehonnur. How's this road condition?

Rajesh which car you will be driving? Mine is Rapid. Planned to be in Sringeri on Sat evening. I'm worried of Kotigehara/Kalasa/Horanadu road condition, though my family would like to visit.

I think a better option would be Shimoga-Thirthahalli-Sringeri. Good roads all the way. About 40-50 km more.

What time are you starting from Bangalore in the morning ? I'm also taking the same route tomorrow morning (Will deviate to Agumbe/Kollur from Tirthahalli). I plan to start at around 4:30AM from South Bangalore.

You may have to get into Arsekere for some local hotels. I remember one the highway where I had lunch some where close to Arsekere.
But that is for south Indian food. Apart from that there CCD around Arsekere.
