Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Hello!!

I was wondering if you can advise me about the possible route between Varanasi and Khajuraho. Is NH7 upto Rewa advisable now, considering both traffic and road conditions? We are a family of three, including my 9-year old son.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I can give you a partial update.
The NH 7 from UP-MP Border to Rewa is 4 lane road now. (except for a km of road). Its the same old 2 lane road from UP border to Varanasi. No idea about the road condition.

I am sorry, didn't see this. I myself did this route in last week of February. Route to be taken is via Sasaram - Piro - Bikramgunj - Ara - Patna

- Mangalore - Easiest and fastest approachable point on NH4
- And there on to Pune-Nagar-Aurangabad and there on. No idea beyond that.

(I presume you are referring to Shegaon MH and not Shiggaon KA).

Either way the first part remains the same.

Mangalore-Belman-Hiriadaka-Someshwar-Agumbe-Thirthahalli-Shimoga-Honnali-Harihar

(I dont know how is the condition of Karakala-Someswhar road. If good then :
Mangalore-Karkala-Someshwar-Agumbe-Thirthahalli-Shimoga-Honnali-Harihar

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

I was thinking about this route
Mangalore - Ankola - Hubli - Vijapur - Solapur - Tuljapur - Beed - Jalna -Shegaon. Normally when we travel to Nagpur we take this route upto Tuljapur and then go via Latur - Nanded to Nagpur. I do not know the status of road between Tuljapur and Jalna. NH4 via Agumbe and other route takes up more time than via Ankola Hubli in my opinion.

What you say is true for Nagpur. Since Shegaon is closer to Aurangapad, I thought Pune would be easier. You may get about 50-80km of a difference in a total of 1200km. But you get much much more of 4-lane. Of course it also depends on your driving comfort.

Yes, crossing Pune is one time consuming part.

Thanks

Jaipur to Bangalore
Route 1 NH8 till Mumbai - Pune and NH4 all along till Bangalore
Route 2 Jaipur - Chittorgarh- Neemuch - Ratlam - Dhule - Ahmed Nagar - Pune

Route 1 has good facilities compared to Route 2. No one can predict traffic on Narmada bridge on NH8

Road condition is also good in Route 2. The traffic eases out beyond Neemuch and increases once you touch NH3. The rumbler stripes on NH3 will reduce the speed.

Would prefer Route 2 due to unpredictable traffic on NH8.

Did Jaipur Chennai in 3 days. Reached Dhule on Day 1 , Kohlapur on Day2 via Mumbai and Chennai on Day3.

Jaipur-AMD-Mumbai-Pune-Kolhapur-Hubli-Bangalore

GQ via Kolkatta

- Bangalore-Tirupathi-Naidupetta (on to NH5/GQ) - Kolkatta - Siliguri

Exactly! Otherwise, reaching Varanasi from Lakhnadon / Jabalpur will be a pain in the first place. And then from Varanasi to north eastern parts of Bihar, I am not sure. That is clumsy too.

So, GQ it is. I wish you a very pleasant and enjoyable drive

And, please update about the route once you do.

Vipin.

Preferred route now is Jaipur - Kota - Ratlam - Vadodara - Thane - Hubli - Bangalore.

You can check with most of the folks on HVK forum where they have taken this route. This helps you avoid the busy sections between Vadodara - Ahmedabad - Himmatnagar - Udaipur sections.

So via Ratlam is the way to go.

Because of very unpredictable route conditions between Calcutta and Siliguri hence people tend to skip it.

The route back maybe via Varanasi or via Lucknow.

EDIT: Parag Bhai, Thanks, this is indeed very helpful.

Isn't Ratlam-Baroda via Godhra/Dahod ? Remember reading it was quite un-safe at nights. And quite many sections were bad? Looks like that has changed?

But that means you have bear quite some bad options in central India? Is it worth? No other easy options to bypass Kolkatta?

Parag, isn't this a longer route instead of coming via Dhule - Nashik to Thane?
