BHPian | ![]() Hi Guys, I am planning for a vacation to India from US next Feb. So just wanted to know if there are any good reliable and affordable Rental agencies in Chennai, where I can just pick a car for my entire vacation plan. I am planning to have self driving vehicle. Is there any formalities that I might be involved with, like some paper work etc. How much do they charge as Deposit and rental charges per day? Can somebody throw some light on this. Also it would be great if there is a common thread that talks about the Rental policies of different agencies and their reliablity and other stuff across India. It could be really helpful for guys like us who plan to come to India for vacation and plan to rent a car. Thanks in advance. |

Senior - BHPian | ![]() Does anyone have info about self-drive vehicles for rent in Chennai? I know there are web-sites available for the same, but I would like to have some first-hand info. There may be some good rental/travel agency who have not put up a web-site, but yet offer good and economical services. Please do let me know of any such. Thanks . Senior - BHPian | ![]() This rent-a-car business is real hot in Kerala. Infact so hot that the tourist taxi guys are up in arms against them. Something like the rivalry between airport taxis and call-taxis in Chennai. Instead of paying obscene amounts for a taxi, you can rent a car from someone in the neighborhood paying much lesser. And you have the option of driving it yourself or getting a driver. A friend rented a self-drive car recently in Chennai. Will get the details and post. |

| ![]() Check Orix in India. You can also get a self drive as well. ORIX India Hertz is also in India these days, but I found them very expensive. If you want to be driven around the city, then fast track call taxi also has some good package rentals. |

| ![]() you can book Avis self driven cars through online 24hrs before the journey, i took the self driven cars from Avis from Bangalore but the same should be available in Chennai also. I took Corolla self drive and the car is a fully loaded one with ABS/Airbags and also with clean interiors. -MUKE |

Senior - BHPian | ![]() avis and hertz dont offer big cars for rent as self drive. its only the santros. i ran around quite a bit for the same. There is however a company Nav Car Travels Chennai|Nav Car Travels Choolai|Nav Car Travels Maddox Street Contacts on Sulekha that offers self drive vehicles. these are black number plates thus saving you the other hassles. |

| ![]() Guys, I have the same issue! Will be in Chennai during the summer and will be needing a self-drive rental car - nothing fancy, even a M800 will do! I don't want to spend a lot on this and wondering if anyone has any further details... I am also open to renting from a fellow t-bhp member (or known person) if we can agree on the price. @ madan80, what are black number plates? cheers ![]() |

Senior - BHPian | ![]() hertz - has small cars to rent (self drive) in Chennai. Black Numberplates (my bad on that) are the private number plates (white with black lettering) |

| ![]() I enquired about self-drive rental prices from Hertz in Delhi three or four years ago. They told me there was a 10,000-rupee deposit and the rental was about 1000 rupees a day, with a minimum 3-day lease. (Just to give an indication of the price range. Presumably this was for a small car.) |
