Mannn... looks like I have opted for a real complicated trip. I do not know if could skip kanyakumari as it would take years to convince my dad. Will it help if add one more day to the itenary. I do feel its hectic trip considering parents.

I don't think his parents will agree to that. He already mentioned they visited Varanasi last year. That pilgrimage will be incomplete without a visit to Rameswaram!

This is the point I am trying to tell. If you start from Tanjore morning say 5AM on D3, you would reach Rameshwaram by afternoon.

An evening to temple and followed by Dhanshkodi on D4, would mean you would be done with Rameshwaram by noon on D4. Thats when you can start for KK and reach by 6-7PM. Very likely you may miss the sunset.

If you leave sun set, you can visit KK next and would be done by noon. There is not much apart from sunrise/sunset, Memorial and temple. On Day 5 noon you start for Madurai and reach by evening.

So in your whole scheme of things, Tanjore-Rameshwaram-KK section is the most hectic part, which you need to schedule and execute properly.

Overall Hyd-Trichy-Tanjore-Rameshwaram-KK-Madurai-Hyd is doable. with halts at
Salem (D1), Tanjore (D2) Rameshwaram(D3), KK (D4), Madurai (D5) and BLR (D6)

EDIT: @Ganesan, just drafted plan without removing the places.

Arun,I dont think your trip is hectic by any measure of imagination.t is going to be pretty easy paced, thanks to the roads all being great considering your parents' ages,it shouldnt be much of a bother for them.Pace your drives to have a maximum of 7-8hours in a day.The only long stretch is the Hyd-Salem one which is a breeze.I do it every two months enroute to Kerala and the drive is as stressfree as you can wish for.

Except for that all the other drives are only 5hours at the maximum.Should be easy pickings.

The only hectic part is his parents being in the car 6-8 hours every day.
That was the only point I was referring to. If that can be managed then no issues.

Yes true about that, totally agree.I guess except for the Hyd-Salem and TVM-Bangalore parts, the rest of the sections should be ok.

I would advise you to remove Trivandrum because Kanyakumari-TVM is one of the busiest road and will be very hectic. Its around 90Kms and may take up to 3 hours if you get stuck in any traffic especially in Nagercoil and Marthandam. There is no by-pass for any of the towns on the way and it will be difficult to find a straight stretch. If you are going ahead with this plan then do this stretch early morning, it should take 2 hours or less. Also, you will have to check for the road condition.

@arun-kun
Also take the take in to consideration the NE monsoon which is currently in full flow here. I don't think toll roads will have any issue, but interior roads can be bad. However there is expected to be an ebb in rain activity after Saturday (5th) though, which may last for a few days.

When you say budget hotels how much is the budget?
Rameshwaram - Hotel TTDC, has ample car parking - Hotel condition is average.

Kanyakumari - Hotel Maadhini, I recently stayed here and its neat. Food is very good.

Madurai - Park Plaza is good.

Trivandrum - Recently stayed at Hotel Chaitram, KTDC. Strictly average.

Then please take out Royal Southern and Sangam out from your list in Trichy. They are at about 2.8 to 3.2K I think.
But very nice hotels esp Royal Southern.

My recommendations:

Hotel Aanand, near Railway Junction [next to Sangeetha's], Trichy [Telephone: 0431-2415545 - 14 lines].

Vivekananda Kendra, Kanniyakumari.

Neww College House, Madurai. Don't miss to have food at Sabari diagonally opposite Neww College House.

Exactly this is what my take is also for Madurai. I had once stayed at New College House and for all the times I had food at Hotel Sabari. Its just awesome for southern dishes.
