The Yamuna Expressway!
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-travel-queries/117319-yamuna-expressway-4.html)
Life in the fast lane: 165km in just 2 hours - The Times of India
The part about locals using the expressway to do sit ups is quite amusing--
"Besides, those living in the vicinity seem to be using the expressway as an all-purpose, open-air recreation center. Men and women can be seen squatting on the edge of the roads. Cyclists stroll. Some young men can even be seen doing sit ups on the smooth flat surface."
:OT, some of the comments on this thread from Tanveer (tsk) were truly hilarious yet beautifully capture the Indian highway scene. Lets see how professionally they manage this expressway. Fingers crossed!

I am pretty sure no one would do any patrolling except to catch personal vehicles driving about speed limits.
That area is a "vote-bank" and i dont think anyone will touch them.
I pray i am proved wrong.

I saw in the paper today that it has been opened for light vehicular traffic. Heavies like Buses & Trucks will have to wait. The length is 165km. Speed limit 100 kph. will be 65kph for heavies.
Mods: Please change the title to Yamuna Expressway since that is its official name. Also, you may add (Now opened) |
The inauguration is still delayed for another month, god knows when it will happen, twitching my fingers for a drive on that.
Some details of the expressway

Few images of the completed section of the expressway, looks good
Yamuna Expressway 165 km long from Greater Noida to Agra Photos as on 15th May 2012
MODS: Please 'edit' the title, as suggested by others too. Yamuna expressway will open in August, it's still closed, only vehicle with special passes can through the expressway.
Cheers,
Sameer
I desperately hope bikes are allowed on this expressway(the main highway is a deathtrap for bikers) unlike the pune-mumbai expressway where they don't allow them (The old highway is in decent condition for bikes though)

Same here - I remember a nightmarish trip I made to Agra last year, did it on a Saturday on NH-2 (Mathura Road). NH-2 to Agra is in such a pathetic condition in parts (at least it was back then) that it took us like FIVE hours to get there, and OVER SIX hours to get back!
You could say all we did on the trip was drive - and it wasn't the most pleasant of drives either to say the least. Neither did we (wife and me) find Agra to be too pleasant, but I guess all we wanted to do was to see the Taj Mahal once in our adult lives, and be done with it. Would have also seen Fatehpur Sikri, but just didn't have time for that - I had assumed it would be an easy 2.5 hr (tops) journey either way, but boy, how wrong was I!
This new expressway should make it possible to leave Delhi at a reasonable hour (like 9AM as opposed to 5AM) and still reach Agra with enough time to spare for some decent sightseeing and then the trip back home. Like I said, can't wait to go for a drive on that road - if it's anything like the Noida-Greater Noida expressway (and it's probably better than that), it's a god-send for all wishing to do a day trip from Delhi-Agra and back.
forgot about this. While going from Delhi to Agra we planned on doing NH2 but by mistake we did Noida expressway and reached greater Noida. When we realized our mistake we were already near the entrance to Yamuna Expressway. Since we were running short of time, I paid 200 bucks to the security fellow to gain access to the road. The road is really nice to drive. Hardly any scenery on either side though. Quite a few cars were coming in the opposite direction. We were doing consistently 120 kmph and covered the complete distance in less than 2hrs in a Innova. Will be very easy to maintain 150-160 kmph once the road is fully operational and no one comes in the wrong route. Has exits for 3 or 4 places do not remember. All the exits were blocked.
Overall well made road. Buddh Circuit was looking really good.

Thanks for sharing.
The article says that the toll wuoild be 2.10 per Km for passenger cars.
Now that amounts to 346.5 rs for one leg of journey of 165 Kms. Double that for return journey.
Now those having economical diesel cars would be paying similar rates of fuel and toll.:Shockked:
Quote:
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has proposed that the toll tax on light vehicles like cars and jeeps be fixed at Rs 2.10 per km, for medium heavy vehicles like minibuses at Rs 3.25 and for buses and trucks at Rs 6.60. For heavy vehicles, the proposed figure is Rs10.10 per km and for big heavy vehicles it is Rs 12.95 per km. The tax would be collected by the concessionaire for 36 years. At present, there are three toll tax plazas along the expressway — at Jewar, Mathura and Agra.

Is it closed again. See my post #43 on this thread. It was opened to light vehicular traffic on July 17 or so. Also, what is the toll?
I thought Akhilesh had specifically declared that no more inaugurations of highways, with special reference to this.

No idea @SG. I think this would mass opening, where every one (qualified to use the E-way) is permitted to go
(unlike LMV yes, buses no etc as was the case earlier).
More importantly they now need to start works on bunks, break areas etc.
Saw today that they have blocked all access to the expressway by placing huge boulders at the gates near the start point. Apparently they don't want anything to happen till 9th.
Mods - Pls merge the back to back posts if reqd.
The barricading was done post death of a person killed post hit by a Safari on 2 Aug near Mathura exit. Attaching pic of the local edition of NBT newspaper.
