re: The Yamuna Expressway!

As per today's Jagaran they have been issued the provisional completion certificate. Toll have been through the mill and are awaiting the CM's signature.

Also, in a U-turn Akhilesh Yadav will inaugurate it (he had earlier stated no inaugurations of highways, etc), this is scheduled for tomorrow with a remote button from Lucknow!

re: The Yamuna Expressway!

Inauguration scheduled for 11:00 from Lucknow by remote. Ram Gopal Yadav will be there to represent the Govt / SP. Open to aam janta from 16:00.

LD fellows have started raising noise for farmer's demands / rights'. I hope they do no mess up the E-way.

Today's newspaper claims that the stir has been called off after successful talks between the farmers and expressway officials.

It has been raining here since morning so looks like a wet inauguration.

Rates have been declared at 320/- for 4 wheelers and 150/- for 2 wheelers.

Yamuna Expressway opens today, pay Rs 320 for one-way car ride to Agra - The Times of India

2 wheelers! on an expressway! I can only imagine MPEW if 2 wheelers were allowed on it.

Is there going to be some sort of monitoring to prevent accidents? Two wheelers going flat out at 80-90 with cars going three digit speeds is a recipe for accidents.

In the UK two wheelers above a certain engine size (was it 125 or 250cc) were allowed. Mopeds and scooters were not.

Better late than never.
It will be interesting to see if the highway officials and their advisors will be able to deflect the pressure of local (naturally abrasive) politicos and wheeler dealers demanding access to i. their localities, ii. vehicles types ( 3 wheelers, 2 wheelers, tempos, bicycles) which are normally not allowed and iii. and also enforce the law on overspeeding, overtaking from the wrong side and driving on the wrong side, as the days and months go by.

After all we live in a noisy democracy, not exactly a standard bearer for discipline and civic sense! And our egos are humungous.

re: The Yamuna Expressway!

Seriously they are allowing 2 wheelers on this? maybe this road will be safer than the NH2. I think this will also be the first Highway to be charging the 2 Wheelers. For the cars or bikers it will be breeze as long as people do not cut lanes. Let us hope they enforce Lane discipline, otherwise speed limit of 100 kmph will prove fatal. Cars will surely do more than that and will not have much time to react if someone cuts the lanes.

Rates are quite expensive per km compared to MPEW.

Mayawati lost the opportunity to inaugurate it and use elephant statues for dividers.

re: The Yamuna Expressway!

Doesn't Rs. 320 for about 160kms sound a bit too much to you people. A ride from Kolkata to Durgapur, which is roughly 200km, hardly costs us about a R. 130. Are all toll taxes so high in western India?

re: The Yamuna Expressway!

I'm glad I will get a chance to see (and probably use) this new expressway in about 2 weeks when work demands that I be in Kaushambi, East Delhi for about a week. Ah! The good things about work..

But, cutting travel times by about half justify the cost per km in my opinion. The NH to Agra was a pain the last time I used that, so an expressway is definitely a boon.

OT, but the BIC and Taj Mahal seem to be along this expressway as per google maps. Is there a way one could check whether any events are scheduled at BIC the weekend of 8/25?

You must be kidding!!! how can you compare Durgapur Expressway with Yamuna Expressway? Durgapur expressway has only name as expressway not the quality and no where is a dedicated access controlled expressway. Have you seen the toll plaza near Dankuni? its lower than even NH standard. You have to drive on a dedicated expressway to get the feel before comparing toll rates. Try NE1 for example(Ahmedabad - Varoda).
