Hi BHPians,

I am planning a road trip from Delhi to Amritsar on this Friday (27th July). How are the road conditions of NH-1 nowadays. I will be starting from Delhi around 12:30PM. I know it is not the right time but it is the earliest I can leave from Delhi on Friday.

There was some work going on for the widening of NH1 in some sections and there are lot of diversions, any current update on this.

Any tips and alternate roads will be welcomed. Thanks in Advance.

The road widening work is still not complete, though it is smooth sailing till Panipat. The diversions and jams start after Panipat. There are no other really convenient routes to Amritsar, where you can cover the route any faster than what you can do on NH1.

Since the thread title suggests that you are looking for eateries on the way, here's a thread related to the same.

If you leave at 12:30 PM, expect to reach Amritsar around 9:30-10 PM with relaxed driving.

The jams will stay till Ludhiana or there will be some respite after Karnal.

I am looking for eating options in Amritsar especially for breakfast.

Any suggestions about Hotel in Amritsar. Looking for a decent hotel for family with kids.
