re: The Agra - Lucknow Expressway!

While I am happy to see this finally get inaugurated I would feel they should defer the event to a later date specially when you had a major rail mishap not very far away

Good. Even in India things can be made to work. But I have two doubts:

Only a couple of days ago the UP Chief Secretary suffered a near fatal accident on the E'way. If on a road which is not yet opened for traffic, vehicles are speeding on the same side in either direction, then what will happen when the traffic starts. How was the other car (a Logan) allowed on the highway, and that too opposite to the traffic.

What is even more worrisome is Mulayam's announcement that there will be Mandi's besides the road in two places. So is that an expressway or a bullock cart/tractor track? As it stands on NH2 just outside Kanpur (Chakarpur) there was a mandi, and that was a dangerous nightmare. Only when in the six-laning was an over-bridge constructed that it became easy to traverse.

Although its inaugurated public is not allowed on this officially. One need to wait for a month at least in order to zip past.

One month looks optimistic considering the bridges on Ganga and Yamuna are far from complete (Many pictures are available in other forums to show the same)

Nevertheless kudos to the establishment to build 85% of the entire stretch in 22 months

Folks in Delhi have one more weekend destination added to the list

This link is not working.
Inauguration has lost its meaning. When public cant use expressway whats the fun in inaugurating it is beyond me.

I am also not able to figure out starting point of this expressway. Is there any cut from YEW to this expressway or we need to go down to NH2

@sparkguy; The CM was celebrating the birthday of his father. Who knows who is in power after this election. One interesting aside, a dog got on the E'way and the touch go of the Sukhoi had to be aborted (no real touch). After all the dog does not need a permit. They are saying one month but I am skeptical.

re: The Agra - Lucknow Expressway!

Any update when the Agra - Lucknow expressway is likely to be open for public. I plan to go to Lucknow from Mumbai and take this route around 20th December. Any chance of me driving on this? Thanking in advance.

Don't think it will be ready by Dec 20

You don't have to go all the way to Agra from Mumbai (It should be more so Indore -Jhansi- Lko)

Thanks. I just thought of experiencing the longest expressway that was inaugurated without being ready for use. I have to wait some more.

I prefer the Udaipur - Kota - Shivpuri - Jhansi - Kanpur route over Indore - Shivpuri. I travelled last year on this route and had a break down near Guna due to pathetic road conditions. Massive truck traffic, lack of divider and broken road with pot holes makes NH-3 between Indore and Shivpuri a horrible driving experience. I hope the authorities have repaired the roads. Indore - Shivpuri patch seriously needs to be 4 laned.

The ALE has been thrown open for the public from 23 Dec onwards. Will be trying it out for my journey from Delhi to Allahabad in a day or two. Any upates/inputs are welcome.

re: The Agra - Lucknow Expressway!

The ALE is still not complete. Some bridges are also half done. More important, locals have cut openings into the fencing and are merrily crossing the ALE. There were a few pics of pedestrians and cycles on the E'way. An invitation to disaster. Already at the inauguration one Canine decided to run up the road forcing the pilot to abort his touch and go.

My son returned to Gurugram day before yesterday, we decided not to risk it.
