Kochi-Dindigul route

Planning to do a trip to Tanjavur via Dindigul from Kochi. Which would be the best route (road condition being the only criterion)?

The routes are Kochi- Trichur bye pass (NH 447) - Wadakkencherry - Gopalapuram- Udumalai - Dindigul - Tanjavur

OR

Kochi - Munnar - Theni - Dindigul

Asking this since Trichur to Wadakkencherry is in very bad shape. Wadakkencherry to Gopalapuram as well is not really good.

Any other better route?

Re: Kochi-Dindigul route

The route via Trichur is still the best option. About 15-20km of bad roads at Kuthiran. But later its clean.

Ernakulam-Vadakkencherry-Pollachi-Udumalpettai-Dindigul-Trichy-Tanjore.

Re: Kochi-Dindigul route

The fastest route would be via Thrissur. For Thanjavur, you could actually do Vadakkancherry-Pollachi-Dharapuram-Kangeyam-Karur-Kulithalai-cross Cauvery into Musiri-Trichy-Thanjavur. Dindigul would be a detour unless its one of your destination, in which case it would be Vadakkancherry-Pollachi-Udumalaipettai-Palani-Dindigul as ampere said.

10 km of Adimali-Munnar was a bit bad when I last went. But both Munnar and Chalakudi-Valparai routes would work if you have time to spend for scenic routes.

Just was checking Google maps. Distance wise both seem to be same.
But both route seem to have their merits.

While Dindigul option gives you a 4lane Trichy, Karur-Kulitalai-Musiri helps bypass Udumalpet and Trichy.
You end up right at Tanjore 4-lane exit when coming from Musiri.
