You can go Chennai via banglore leave early morning around 4.00am from mumbai & u will reach banglore by late evening say 7-8 pm this is with speed around 100 -120 & ocassional speed of 140+ on empty roads you will find lots of twist & turns & lane changing appearing before & after entering karnataka so i recommend be slightly cautious & dont overspeed unless you see clear road once you reach banglore you can rest in some hotel & continue journey next day morning towards chennai you leave say around 7am & you will reach chennai say about 11am-12pm not to mention the banglore-chennai highway is excellent.
P.S i think banglore guys can give you more info abt where to stay for night hault. .. mclaren,v1p3r your input is required.

Chennai to bangalore is a comfortable six hours and the recommended route is the Old Madras road (Bangalore-Chittoor-Chennai). And i highly suggest u to drive only during the day exactly as suggested by FordRocam.

When u're in chennai, call me.

now with the krisnagiri route fully laid but for few kms, i would strongly suggest him to take the hosur-krishnagiri-chennai route.

Netarchie.. when are you planning for trip? I have some similar plans towards end of May.

Just remember this since you are crossing state borders...
Get a PUC done in Mumbai before leaving and retain all toll tickets etc., You will definitely need this if you are stopped by cops in Bangalore / Chennai. They can be pretty annoying at times.

mumbai -bangalore can be done in 15-16 hours ......but for that you should leave early from mumbai by about 3-3.30 am ,so that you will pass all the cities in maharshtra by 10-11am .....that means no reckless bikers, cyclists or tractors ...

dharwad ,about 580 kms from mumbai is the mid point for mumbai-bangalore ...if you plan to take a break ...i advis eyou to do at belagum or dharwad as after that you wont get good hotels along the NH ....

and after dharwad the GQ work is going on ...so there will be a lot of diversions ...but still u can reach bangalore outskirts by 7-8 pm only to be stuck near nelamangala.....

actually you can start early in the night by 12-1am ...as this night driving will not involve on-coming traffic till dharwad ....this way you can reach dharwad by early morning and from there reach bangalore by early evening

or if you want a more scenic drive ...you can do mumbai-goa-mangalore-bangalore

Just a thought.. have you looked at taking the Mumbai - Hyderabad - Chennai route? Hyderabad is sort of midway.

I have done Hyderabad - Chennai in about 10 hours. (around 650km)
Mumbai - Hyderabad is also around the same.

If you have two good drivers, you can make it within 24 hours.

chennai - redhills - tada - nellore - ongole - vijayawada - hyderabad

(or)

chennai - nellore - ongole - nagarjun sagar - hyderabad (for a more scenic back roads drive). this is the route which all the buses take.

How about NH18? (Cudappah route) How are the roads?

Trooper

Can you please let me know NH numbers and the distance in Kms for this route: chennai - nellore - ongole - nagarjun sagar - hyderabad

Also the directions from Ongole to Hyderabad (never travelled in this route)

Latest info on conditions please

Since this is a old thread could someone be kind enough to give me an update of the Bangalore Mumbai highway?
I am planning to drive to Belgaum which I guess is exactly half way to Mumbai. Is the highway complete and in good condition? How long do you think it might take me averaging around 100kmph? Are there any bad patches and anything I should look out for?
Thanks in anticipation.
