Hi All,

Would like to know the best route to go from Kannur to Bengaluru (I live in ECT). I am noob at driving and already made a big boo boo (as the kids say...or used to say) while travelling to Kannur last year. I think I missed the turn for KRS road at that time and ended up going into Mysore.

I am just looking for the most safe straightforward route with the best possible roads. Not looking to take a detour for sightseeing or go on adventurous diversions (I have already lost two plugs that connect the engine splash guard).

Also, does anyone know the road conditions at this time. I am planning to travel over the weekend (most likely SAT) but I am not sure of the latest updates on the possible routes that google shows.

The usual, straight forward, safe route is Kannur - Iritty - Gonikoppal - Hunsur - Mysore Ring Road - Mysore Road - NICE Road - E.City.

Yes, the KRS road is still in bad condition and not advised to take it. Go straight instead of taking a left at Yelwala (which is what goes to KRS Road) and touch Mysore at Mysore Outer Ring Road. The map would guide you. And join back to Bangalore road at Manipal Hospital Jn.

NOW, as we speak, there are heavy rains in the stretch and the Bangalore - Mysore highway is blocked due to river overflow. So whether that will be open and clear for this weekend depends on how the rain situation is for the next 2 days. So watch out the status (check back here in 2 days and someone (or I) can provide a latest update). It is likely to be ok, but if heavy down pour continues, then it could be uncertain. Otherwise the road condition is fine.

The route is clear as of today. I know someone who traveled today. But Kanakapura road to be taken instead of usual Mysore road until there is some clarity on Mysore road status. No issues in traveling via Kanakapura road.

Hi All,

How is the condition of KRS road these days? Planning to drive back to Bengaluru from Kannur (probably leave around 5 to 6 am and I drive like a retired Bank risk assessment officer) and usually the recommendation I see here is to avoid it and take the Mysore ring road instead.

It is being relaid according to a report in another forum. No idea if it is complete or not.

Hi,

Am planning the following route (Kozhikode - Vatakara - Kuthuparamba - Iritty - Makutta - Virajpet) tomorrow. Realised I will need to cross Makutta Check post and I am driving a leased car so need to pay border tax.

Would i need to select Gundlupet or Punajanur as the border / barrier name while paying border tax on parivahan. These are the only two points that appear to be close to the makutta check post.

Also, hows the road surface and any recommendations for lunch spots between Iritty and Virajpet?

Is it a black/yellow board vehicle? Wondering why Makkutta check post is not listed.

Roads are all good. Between Iritty and Virajpet, the popular restaurant Coorg Gate is there. Right after the uphill climb.

That’s right, it’s a black and yellow board. The funny part is parivahan only lists the RTO/ARTO offices. Now which check post comes under which RTO is a guessing game. If only that clarity was there it would be so much more easier. I am thinking of taking a punt and making the payment under Gundlupet ARTO. Let’s see.

Drove from Kannur Airport to BLR the day before. Avoided the KRS road as its still work in progress. Even otherwise, I would prefer the wide n straight ring road except maybe during peak traffic.

1. To follow Hunsur Iritty Road
   or
2. Manathwadi Kannur Route?

Could you also suggest some seaside or beach side restaurants?

1. Mascot Beach Resort - it's a hotel but you have restaurant with outdoor sea facing seating
2. State Beach Resort - same as above but with better angles, but unfortunately food isn't that good
3. Payyambalam Beach Road - there are a few limited restaurants along this lane. Choose what suits you best.
   
   These are the ones which are close to the main town.
