Guys,

I am planning a trip from Mangalore to Ankleshwar via Nashik, My drive would be Honda Brio.

Google map suggests me multiple routes :

During my return journey,I do not have a purpose to come via Nashik , but again I am served with 2 options by Google map: http://goo.gl/maps/Ly3QY

Is Driving via Mumbai a hectic/tiring affair?

Please help me to pick best route among these and any suggestions or things to consider during this road trip would be highly appreciated.

The ideal route upto Nasik would be like this -

Mangalore - Kundapur - Ankola - Yellapur - Hubli - Kolhapur - Pune - Sangamner - Nasik. (NH17 upto Ankola - no dividers. NH 63(?) Ankola to Yellapur (you can even reach Belgaum, by passing Hubli, not sure of the road conditions). NH 4 from Hubli to Pune will be blast. NH 50 Pune to Nasik will be tiresome)

Not sure about the route shown from Nasik to Ankleshwar. There is alternate route which will take you directly beyond Valsad (through Surgana, Saputara and Vansada).

There are plenty of discussions on Pune / Mumbai to Ahmedabad / Surat and you can get all info here :-

Thanks for your response.

Why go to Hubli?
Can I take the route : Yellapur > Haliyal > Kittur ?

Nashik to Ankleshwar is Doable via Saputara - Billimora - Navsari - Surat.

Nashik - Saputara - Billimora is a state highway. Saputara is a hill station on the way and also a border town for crossing into Gujarat from Maharashtra. This road was in excellent condition, super smooth back in 2012, not sure of the current situation. Its a single lane SH.

Join on the NH8 at Billimora and you can sail to Ankleshwar via Navsari - Surat.

If you do not have any specific work at Nashik, than I suppose Pune - Bombay (via Express highway) and Bombay - Ankleshwar (via NH8) will be a great road. Traffic in Bombay is very much manageable if you avoid the rush hours.

Ankola to Yellapur is through a forest. It gets denser from Yellapur to Haliyal. There are no halts / help in case of emergency. Yellapur to Hubli is better of and once we hit Hubli it is smooth sailing. If you are travellig with women, use the hotel at Yellapur. After wards there will be none till Dharwad or till Kittur.... not sure about the state of road from Yellapur to Kittur. Hubli to Yellapur was much better after the mining trucks stopped :-)

Thanks for the tip, Dt! Will store it for future use....

Think he has some requirement of going via Nashik. However, there is no need to touch Bombay. The route after e-way would be : Kalamboli - Belapur - Airoli - Eastern Expressway - Ghodbunder - Vasai. Only the EEH portion will be of Bombay and it is never clogged.
