How's the stretch between Ankleshwar and bharuch, heard there's lot of jam over the narmada river.

I wish to complete the stretch till rajkot in one day. My initial extimates are mumbai to Baroda (450 kms in 8 hrs) and vadodra to rajkot (300 kms in 5hrs). So if I start by 3am in the morning from mumbai I expect to reach Rajkot by late evening.

I will be travelling with my wife. This will be my first such long drive so suggestions regarding how to best take care of the car (4 months old Grandi10 asta), things to keep in mind before the journey and sightseeing places we may cover or take breaks at are most welcome

Thanks

Hi
More than a month back read that the Bharuch bottleneck problem has been solved. So dont expect any problem on that sector.
I am sorry I cannot help with your other queries as I have a very leisurely way of driving, not slow as such, but driving between 11 AM and around 6.30 PM.
3 years back I did Baroda Bombay in around 7 and a half hours, not pushing too much and stopping for a quick lunch, tea, biobreaks.

Thanks faustus77,

In some other thread, someone advised to put a yellow tape on the right headlight before entering Gujarat. COuld you suggest if its mandatory and what repurcusions may follow if not done likewise. Thanks

Hi
Yes it is mandatory.
If they catch you a fine has to be paid. You will unnecessarily waste your time
Better that you put a yellow sticker. 3 years back I paid rs 10 for it.

You've chosen wrong thread buddy.
Move over to following threads which are very much active all time.
1. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...adodara-7.html
2. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...medabad-3.html

Regarding Narmada check following post:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post3534863

Yellow strip on headlight:
Do apply. As being MH(out state) passing car, will become natural target for Traffic Police. There are no rules on materials to be used! So, you can use Yellow Electric tap safely.

Bypassing Ahmedabad:
1. Take SP Ring road exit from Expressway. It's a butterfly junction so read boards carefully. You need to take Rajkot/Sarkhej exit. This will be first exit to be offered after Nadiad.
2. Point at which NH8A starts from SP Ring road is known as Sanathal. From Sanathal to Rajkot should be an easy affair. Road condition is average to good. Abd - Rajkot was broken badly in monsoon, but resurfacing has been done & potholes in rest of the part has been filled. Maintaining 80KMPH should not be tough task.

Mumbai - Somnath - Dwarka - Mumbai

My friend and I have been considering the idea of visiting the temples at Somnath and Dwarka for a while now.

We are looking for some help prepare.

Context:
2 males so pretty flexible with route, stay, etc.
Want to avoid night driving
Dont mind taking longer route to avoid traffic, delays, etc
It will be on a Duster 110 AWD
No inclination to visit Gir at this point
Due to lack of leaves at work, time available is 4 days (or stretched to 5 days)

Have a few questions to start with:
Q1. Is this route doable in the month of July (second half) considering Monsoon situation in Gujarat?
Q2. Route for Mumbai - Somnath, which for the following three is best (or is there a better option)?
A. Google map suggests Mumbai - Vadodra - Kheda (NH8) - Limdi - Rajkot - Junagadh - Somnath.
B. I have also read some people suggest a tighter route via Dhanduka - Botad - Amreli.
C. Via Bhavnagar.
Q3. Can Mumbai-Somnath be done in one day?
Q4. Route for Somnath - Dwarka, which is the best in terms of time and ease of driving?
A. NH8E - coastal road
B. NH947 - inland

Appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

This is doable in monsoons, roads in Gujarat are fantastic.
I would advise you to stick to Mum - Baroda - Rajkot , and then go to Dwarka or junagadh/somnath depending on your wish.

Skip your stays at Dwarka/Somnath since there is always heavy rush.
Try Porbander / Junagadh /Jamnagar instead.

Bhavnagar not recommended unless you plan to visit it specifically.
Also Somnath-Dwarka, must do the coastal road its very scenic.

Below is my road trip which can give some information.

Thanks for the tips! Will certainly consider booking stay outside Somnath (Veraval or Junagadh, which has my friend's family home) though stay at Dwarka seems inevitable.

Reading your travelogue, Gir is tempting. But we are short on time and it may be closed this time of the year?

One more question:
Do we have to go up to the SP ring road to catch the Rajkot highway? Can we not swing by Nadiad-Kheda route?

You can stay at Jamnagar or Rajkot if that's possible or stay back at Porbander and visit Dwaka early and leave.

Call Gir office to check, its usually closed in moonsoons.

SP ring road comes up once Baroda-Ahmedabad highway ends if I remember correctly. It is an easy and fast route to Rajkot being a major highway. Not sure about Nadiad-Kheda.

MUMBAI (Thane)- DWARKA-PORBANDAR-SOMNATH-DIU-MAGNETIC HILL-GIR-BARODA-THANE

This is the log of my road trip stating from Thane to Chotila, Dwarka, Somnath, Diu, Magnetic Hill and Gir in third week of May 2018. I have purposely made Trip –A to 000 at CNG pumps and other important locations so that people can start using this log mid way or if joining from other locations.

ROUTE: THANE – CHOTILA-DWARKA

Trip A 000 - Start from Thane
43 Km Toll Rs 65
91 Km Toll Rs 60
149 Km Gujarat Gas CNG pump at 3-11, GIDC Rd, Phase 1, GIDC, Vapi,

The road is just wonderful. If you start early morning by 5 am, you will not find any traffic on the road and you can attain high speeds. Lot of petrol pumps on routr for petrol and diesel. But for CNG this would be the first pump in 150 Kms drive from Thane/ Mumbai

Trip A-000 at CNG pump
10 Km Toll Rs 65
Note- 16 Km highway touch online cng available
70 Km Toll Rs 60
Note- 89 Km online cng available
124 Km Toll Rs 70
Note- 151 Km online cng available
166 Km Giriraj Hotel. Good food.
174 Km Toll Rs 20
192 Kabir Petroleum And CNG Station, National Highway 8, Jhanghar, Gujarat 392210

Road condition is very good. Low to moderate traffic. Many petrol/diesel pumps. Few CNG pumps.

Trip A-000 at Kabir CNG pump
20 Km Toll Rs 90 at 12:30 pm
57 Km Toll Rs 110
99 Km Om Restaurant is very good for lunch
160 Km cng pump available
237 Km Gujarat Gas CNG Online 247, Limbdi, Gujarat 363421. Waiting period about half an hour for cng.

Road condition is very good. Road had moderate traffic. Can attain speed of 100 to 120 very easily.

Trip A-000 at CNG pump at Limbdi
4 Km HFM Highway food mall at 6:30 pm
10 Km cng pump available
68 Km Sapna Hotel, Chotila is a very good hotel for overnight stay

Road condition excellent. Traffic increases by evening. Yiou will reach Chotila by 8:30 pm if you started by 5 am from Thane/Mumbai. There is famous a temple at Chotila, if anyone wants to visit.

Trip A-000 at Chotila
50 Kms Rotary Doll museum Rs 30 entry Rs 25 camera
62 Km Tadka Express Breakfast is the only decent place on way till Dwarka.
62.5 Km CNG on right side of road
78 Km Bharat Hotel
110 Km Hotel Shiv Kripa …no others hotels after Chotila
157 Km Gujarat Gas CNG Pump Station, 50 feet Rd, Ketivadi Farmers Colony, Mayur Nagar, Jamnagar, Gujarat 361003. Waiting period only 5 minutes as no rush in mornings and afternoon.

Road is very good. Can maintain 100 Kmph speed easily. Dearth of eating joints, so carry enough food with you. Rarely you will come across any restaurants.

Trip A-000 at cng pump Jamnagar.
17 Km Hotel Express
30 Km to 38 Km road is very, very bad
54 Km cng is available. This is the last CNG pump on this route.
86 Km sharp right turn for Limbdi
130 Km you reach Dwarka

Road is fairly good with low traffic. No toll on this route.
You can visit Okha located at 36 Km from Dwarka. The road is very good but as you reach Okha the road is bad with lot of trucks.

ROUTE: DWARKA-PORBANDAR-SOMNATH

ROUTE: SOMNATH TO DIU

Trip A-000 at Somnath
Up to 32 Km extremely bad road.
86 Km reached Diu

Somnath to Diu has very very bad roads. You will not be able to maintain speed more than 15 Km per hour at times. Maximum you can go will be 40 Kms per hour. But as soon as you approach Diu, the road is excellent. You can visit Diu Fort, Nagoa beach and Ghogla beach. Hotels are over priced here during weekends, so plan to go during week days.

ROUTE: DIU- TULSI SHYAM- MAGNETIC HILL-AMRELI

Trip A-000 at Diu
3.6 Ghogla beach
46 Km Divyashyam Alphaar at Tulsi Shyam Rs 85

70 Km Madhuban Dhaba in Gir forest
74 Km Hotel Sudershan on way
114 Km Essar Pump
134 Km Shivam CNG Station, Amreli, Gujarat 365601

This is a very good route going through Gir forest. You can see wild life if you are alert. The cheetals and sambhars come near your car if you feed them. You will find the first CNG station at Amreli and then you can switch over to cng. You have traveled 450 Kms on petrol from Dwarka. The road till Tulsi Shyam is very good but with plenty of traffic.
