Calcutta to Uttarakhand, through Nepal

Hi,
Going from Calcutta to Uttarkhand, but instead of using the usual roads, was thinking of going through Nepal. So need some inputs.

Notably
Do I have to state my exit point when I enter, and if so, do I HAVE to stick to it?
What infrastructure available? Fuel, car/ tyre repairs, night accommodation, food?
Best exit (escape!) points to India. And respective border open/ closed times.
Of course condition of road, esp west of Narayangarh.

Regards
Sutripta

An interesting travelogue in making 8-)

From what I know you do not have to declare your exit point. Only the number days and you have to stick to it.

From Calcutta to Butwal (Lumbini), you would need to figure but Butwal to Mahedranagar (on the Nepal border - Tanakpur on India border) is a breeze.
Possible stay options - Lumbini: quite a few hotels, I had stayed at hoke, Thakurdwara (Bardiya national park): lots of lodge type spots - limited food and supply options, Mahedarnagar - Hotel Opera.

Do check on the political condition before you start, advisable to do so as the terai belt is volatile and slightly hostile to Indian number plate vehicles now.
Drive safe!

Bummer.

My border crossing experience is limited to Pasupati, Kakarbhita, and Raxaul. Need to bone up on the others.

Did you complete the trip? Would be interested to know how it went.......have been thinking of going through Nepal (and back) to Darjeeling, from Delhi. Some feedback would help crystalise plans.

Nitin - I'll pick your brains separately, over an overdue drink!

No.
Thinking of doing the reverse when the vehicle has to come back.
